GAVIN
THE NIGHT HAD CAUGHT ON GAVIN RATHER QUICKLY, THE BOY WALKED AIMLESSLY ACROSS THE STREETS OF A LIVELY NEIGHBORHOOD. People passed by him without sparing him a glance, nobody taking the time to notice how pale he looked and the prominent bags under his green eyes. The blue scrubs were now filled with dirt stains, the lab coat laid across his neck, the white crocs were now grey from all the places he had been in search of food. Gavin Herrera was collapsing, his stomach growl loudly, the boy swallowed in an effort of forcing the feeling of puking down.
Nonetheless, the kid preferred to be on the streets, starving, then be back in his cell. The type of unforgivable things he had to do in order to fulfill the scientist's request will haunt him forever, Gavin felt nothing and that would've worried him but he learned that emotions get you kill. All he needed was his instinct, it will keep him alive and it won't break him from the inside, that was the number one lesson he was taught. Gavin Herrera was a killer, a cold-blooded murderer, not a weakling.
It wasn't his first time killing, scientist had wired it in his system every time they order him to fight one of the other subjects. They studied their brain activity, searching for weakness, if one of them hesitated they would send the subject to the therapy room. Nobody wanted to go there, the things they forced them to watch, injecting them with adrenaline every time the subject's eyes started to drop. They used various methods of psychosis in hopes of getting rid of the human side of all the kids, turn them into lethal and merciless assassins before selling them across the world to the army or mafias. Whoever bid the most money, won. No exceptions.
But now something was completely different, whenever the switch inside of him turn on, something completely beastly took over his body. Gavin was overwhelmed by the need for blood; he craved to see it, to touch it, feel it on his hands, and if he could feel something he knew he it would be fear. Unpopular opinion: he was glad he couldn't feel anything; he wouldn't risk feeling disappointment or the feeling of abandonment like he did after his father sold him to A.I.M.
He didn't need that kind of burden, all the pain he cared about feeling was the physical one, because from experience he knew that the emotional was the one with the power of destroying you. Gavin had a hard time getting rid of them, he was often driven by anger, resentment, and mercy. Whenever he fought the other kids, he would always have the upper hand but he couldn't bring it upon himself to end a life after hearing their cries for mercy. Gavin had a big heart, he just couldn't do it, the loser always ended up dead either by the hand of their opponent or a guard.
