Chapter Twenty-Three...

By the time Monday came, Mel and I were back to normal, so I was guaranteed a lift. I hadn't heard from the police since Friday night and my parents had been overly sympathetic. That didn't mean they had stayed in the house especially, however, they were absent just as much.

I had told Jord about what had Mel had said and that she was alright with me again on Friday night and consequently ended up going to bed later than I should after we spent most of the night talking and texting.

I hadn't seen Zack for a while and I was wondering how he was taking the whole police thing. Had he faltered at all yet? I knew he had been a lot more confident than me at the beginning, but how would he be now he knew that I had the strong case?

My thoughts were put on hold when I heard Mel's horn from the driveway. After grabbing my rucksack, I hurried down the drive and hopped in her car. We talked about pointless things and it was kind of nice to not have any drama between the two of us for a while, even if there was still a slight bit of hostility from her part.

Classes were all boring, like usual. I talked to Grace in some of them and Mel in some of them. Mel still sat with Leonie in some of our classes and Grace took this as an opportunity to ask me about what had happened. "You two are talking properly again then?"

I nodded. "Pretty much." I confirmed. "There's still a bit of awkwardness between us, but it's back to normal again, yeah."

She smiled. "Good. I didn't want to think that I had come between you." She exclaimed sounding relieved.

"It was nothing to do with you, I already told you that." I assured her. "There's some stuff going on with me that I needed to explain to her. Now it's all out of the water, it's okay." I said, half-truthing. I hadn't told her the truth, but lying to her further had cleared everything up.

I realised our teacher was glaring at us then and we didn't make any other comments.

When it came to Maths, Mel and Grace both sat next to me, seeing as though there was a spare seat on either side of me. Mr. Armstrong smiled quickly at me, before beginning to teach the lesson.

I was listened intently to when he was teaching, seeing as though I actually liked maths and thought it was interesting. When it came to answering the questions, I got half of them right like normal and then sat and looked around the classroom absentmindedly for the rest of it.

When the end of the lesson came and it was lunchtime, I was surprised to see Zack in the doorway of the classroom. He didn't have Mr. Armstrong at all and so I wondered what he was doing here. When he spotted me coming out, he intercepted. "I need to talk to you and him." He said in a low voice.

I knew him was Jord and so I was instantly wary. Mel was walking out behind me and she gave Zack a look filled with such venom I could barely believe it. "I need to stay at maths for a bit." I told Mel and Grace. "I'll see you later, okay?" I checked, before heading back inside.

Zack was stood opposite Mr. Armstrong, fixing him with a very hate-filled glare. "What do you want Zack?" Jord asked, glancing behind Zack to look at me. I walked to stand beside Mr. Armstrong. Zack might not have tried to rape me, but that didn't mean I felt comfortable around him. I would rather stand next to Jord for support.
