Chapter Twenty-Nine…

Goodness knows why I agreed to it, but I found myself sitting in Mr. Armstrong’s classroom at lunchtime as Matt explained his plan. “So Jordan, I have a plan to throw the police off your trail.” He announced proudly.

Jord looked doubtful. “I get the feeling this is a terrible idea.” He stated.

I nodded in agreement. “You’re completely correct.”

Matt shot me a look. “Hey, you agreed to it.”

I snorted. “After listening to you persuade me for almost an hour. I only said yes to get you to shut up.”

Jord looked between the two of us, clearly confused. “Me and Jessica are going to fake date.” Matt informed, grinning widely and looking at Jord smugly and almost knowingly.

I saw Mr. Armstrong’s fists clench and I looked at him worriedly, he didn’t look too happy about that. “Excuse me?” He managed to get out through his incredibly tense jaw.

“We can tell the police that me and Matt have been dating secretly because my parents wouldn’t approve and that’s why me and you are close because I’m going out with Matt.” I rushed out, trying to calm him down, he still looked rather annoyed.

“It’s stupid.” He claimed, having not unclenched his fist.

Matt still looked smug but his look dimmed a little. “Jordan, I know you’re annoyed about this, but don’t let your personal feelings get in the way of it. It’s a good plan and you know it.” He said seriously. Personal Feelings?

Mr. Armstrong sighed and sat down in the chair behind his desk. “Are you sure this will work? Because if it doesn’t, I’ll be annoyed as hell that I’ve agreed to it.” He said, his voice still strained.

“It’s not guaranteed, but it’s the best we’ve got. If it makes you feel any better, Jessica hates the idea too.” Matt joked.

I nodded enthusiastically when Jord looked at me. “Fine.” He muttered. “But I still don’t like it.”

Matt smirked. “I didn’t expect you to like it.”

“Look, I need to go and find Grace, she’s dying to know where I’ve been all morning.” I told them, before heading out of the room. I could practically feel the anger rolling off Mr. Armstrong, but I knew he was trying to contain it. I didn’t understand what had gotten to him so much though. It wasn’t as if I was really going out with Matt, it was a cover story, and would it be even worse if I really was going out with him.

I tried not to ponder it and walked faster when I heard the yelling from Jord’s room. I got the feeling Matt would be regretting this idea soon enough.

I found Grace in the dining hall sitting by herself. I grabbed something to eat quickly and joined her. “So, where were you this morning? You didn’t have time to tell me in maths.” She inquired, pushing for an answer for once.
