Chapter Eighteen…
“What?” Mr. Armstrong asked, looking concerned.
“Police.” I informed him, pointing at the police parked on my driveway. “Luckily my parents aren’t in.” I breathed a sigh of relief.
“What do you think they want?” Jord asked.
“I don’t know, but I’m about to find out.” I said. “I should get out here, they probably wouldn’t find it appropriate for you to give me a lift home. It also makes us more suspicious.” I revealed.
He nodded. “Sure. If you get out here then you can say you’ve walked home and that’s why you’re late.” He suggested.
I nodded. “That’s a good idea. You should probably look in the opposite direction when you drive past or something.” I said, half joking, half being serious.
He chuckled and nodded. “You’ll be fine.” He said, looking into my eyes intensely. “Ring me and tell me what they say when they leave.” He told me, before undoing my seatbelt for me and leaning across to open my door. “Act normal.”
I nodded. “Thanks for the lift.”
He smiled. “It’s no problem.”
I got out of the car and walked normally, trying not to show how nervous I was. I needed to act natural. There was nothing for me to be nervous about, it was just the police coming to question me some more.
I saw Mr. Armstrong drive past me, but I made no attempt to look directly at his car. I didn’t need to attract any attention to him. The police noticed my approach and got out of their car. “Hello Jessica.” They said politely. There was a man and a woman. “We just need to talk to you some more about what Zack tried to do to you.” They informed me.
I nodded but didn’t say anything whilst I fished around in my rucksack for my house key. I let them in and they sat down on a sofa opposite me. “We talked to Zack down at the police station today, but he is still denying that he ever tried to rape you.” She began.
“He is also still claiming that Jordan Armstrong assaulted him for no reason.” The policeman finished.
I gasped and pretended to look shocked. “I don’t know why he’d keep trying to get Mr. Armstrong into trouble. He didn’t do anything wrong.” I said, not having to fake my upset his time. I really was distressed about the fact Mr. Armstrong might get into trouble.
“We need to know why you think Zack would try to have Mr. Armstrong fired and arrested. He could just deny the charges and not involve Mr. Armstrong.” The policewoman asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe it’s because Mr. Armstrong was the one who convinced me I should tell people about what Zack tried to do to me. I wanted to keep it private, but Mr. Armstrong pointed out that Zack might try to do it to someone else and succeed. Perhaps Zack blames Mr. Armstrong for me telling you.” I answered carefully.
