Chapter Forty-One…
“We are allowing you to all drop the case. It will not be filed officially and no charges will be pressed. The force is sorry for dragging it on so long, but when something like this happens it has to be classed as suspicious. We have decided that everyone is being genuine in their reasons and this shan’t be brought up again. We’re sorry for any inconveniences.” She stated professionally.
I was gaping at her incredulously by the time she had finished speaking. They were accepting that the case had been dropped. They had finally accepted it. When a big smile managed to break across my face, I instantly tried to squash it again. I should be composed, like Jord was. I could still see the glint of happiness in his eye though and I settled for the same. “Thank you.” Jord said in the same formal tone. “It’s good to know that everything’s done with now. Life can get back to normal again.”
The police officers both smiled at again and the secretary returned, telling us we could leave.
As soon as we had left the office, my contained grin broke across my face and when I looked at Jord, he was beaming just as much. The absolute glee in his smile hypnotised me for a moment, making me remember just how gorgeous he actually was. I quickly snapped myself out of it however, remembering our ‘friends’ pact.
“I can’t believe that’s finally over.” I said relieved.
I meant it, I did. I was glad it was over. I couldn’t quite diminish the nagging feeling at the back of my mind though that I didn’t want this to end. Now what excuses would I have to call Jord? Why would I ever need to go running to him again? Whereas that should have been seen as a good thing, I hated it. I wanted to find excuses to be with him every moment of the day, but this had just eradicated any reason I had to talk to him outside of a maths lesson.
I didn’t let that show on my face though and kept my visible emotions under control. He grinned back as well. “I know. I’m glad you don’t have to deal with all that crap anymore.” He said sincerely.
Despite my surprisingly sullen mood, it still caused me to smile knowing that he cared. “It’s going to be weird.” I commented, voicing my thoughts aloud.
“I know.” He agreed, sending me a knowing look. “Maybe it’s for the best though.”
I nodded. It probably was for the best, that didn’t mean I was happy about it. I tried not to let it put a damper on my good mood and smiled reassuringly, trying not to show how much it actually effected me.
I composed my face again when we went back into the classroom so that no one became suspicious of my obviously cheerful mood. Grace raised her eyebrow at me when I sat down curiously and indirectly asked me to elaborate.
I couldn’t help the massive grin that broke out on my face. Grace looked even more confused then, causing my smile to widen. “They’ve dropped it. It’s done. All of it!” I whispered to her excitedly.
She squeaked, much like she had when I told her about staying and Jord’s house, causing us to receive a few stares. “Really?” She asked.
I nodded enthusiastically and sat bobbing up and down happily in my seat for the rest of the lesson. I was determined not to let anything bring me down from my high, no matter how negative.
That apparently wasn’t possible though when Zack appeared outside Jord’s classroom as I was exiting. Mel, who had left before me was stood by his side. My smile vanished and I put on a controlled expression so as not to show my annoyance.
“I want to talk to you.” Mel said giving me a hesitant smile.. Zack didn’t say anything and I wondered why he was here exactly.
I raised and eyebrow. “What makes you think I want to talk to you.” I replied sarcastically.
