Chapter Twenty-Six...
JORD'S POV:
"I was only really ringing to see if I could have Matt's number. I didn't want to ruin your good mood, but I'm gonna need a lift to school tomorrow." Jess explained down the phone, causing the jealousy inside me to spring up slightly. Sure, I knew why she wasn't asking me for a lift, but that didn't stop it bugging me.
"Yeah I have Matt's number." I confirmed, hating the hint of annoyance in my voice. I just hoped she didn't pick up on it. Mind you, Jess seemed to notice everything else about me other people glided over.
"Thanks." She said gratefully. "I really didn't want to have to walk."
I didn't blame her. I don't think anyone would want to walk that distance if they had another option. "No problem." I replied, my voice still slightly strained.
"I would have asked you for a lift, but you probably get to school earlier than I would ever want to be there." She teased, causing me to laugh despite my now sullen mood.
"And I would have offered you a lift if I hadn't known that was the exact response I was going to get out of you." The joke came easily to my lips and she chuckled before saying she was off to ring Matt. That brought back my jealousy and I said goodbye in a less than enthusiastic voice.
After wallowing on the sofa for a couple of minutes, there was a knock on the door. I opened it and saw Matt there talking on the phone, no doubt to Jess.
"Nowthat, is a much better way to persuade me into giving you a lift." He teased a grin on his face. My jaw clenched as I tried not to let my mind wander to the possibilities of what she'd offered that was making him grin so much.
"Am I picking you up at normal time?" He checked before saying some insignificant things and then denying it was any problem.
"Besides I don't think Jordan would be too pleased if I refused." He told her, causing me to shake my head with despair.
"You shouldn't say stuff like that." I told him when he had hung up.
"And why not? Because I'm lying?" He taunted, causing me to grit my teeth. He knew full well that Iwouldhave had been annoyed if he'd refused to pick her up.
He smiled a smile of success and then sat down opposite me on a couch. "So, what's the rundown? Jessica said she would let me know tomorrow, but I'm not that patient."
I smiled. "She dropped the case." I told him happily. I was so glad that was finally over. After seeing the state Jess was in worrying about what would happen if her parents were caught, I had been tempted to ring up and admit to assualt just to get her out of it.
"You finally persuaded her to let it go?" Matt asked surprised. "She didn't look like she was going go give in easily."
I shook my head. "Not exactly, it was a mixture of blackmail and coincidence." I explained. "Besides, I don't think I'd be able to persuade Jess to anything anyway."
Matt chuckled. "If anyone could, you would be able too." He pointed out and I tried not to show the smile that wanted to break out on my face. I shouldn't let myself read into these little comments of his. "So, blackmail, how did that one come about?"
"Zack came asking us to drop the case and so I decided to piss him off and question him seeing as though he's such an arsehole. We were obviously going to drop it anyway. Then he said he would tell the police about Jess' parents being addicts." I explained.
Matt looked genuinely surprised. "How on Earth did he know that when her best friend hadn't even realised?"
I shrugged. "They did go out for four months and I imagine he's a bit smarter than Mel." I said slightly bitterly. I didn't like the idea of Jess around Zack after seeing him almost hit her in the corridor.
