Chapter Thirty-One…
Grace unlocked the door to her very big house. She didn’t seem like the kind of person to brag about having money though, especially seeing as though she didn’t even use her car for school, and that was something I was happy about. As someone who doesn’t have a lot, people with money rubbing it in your face doesn’t look very appealing.
“You two seem really close.” Grace commented as we sat down on her plush sofas.
“Nah, I just trust him, he’s a good friend.” I informed her.
“I thought it was really odd when you blanked Matt and went straight to Mr. Armstrong, I thought you were mad at him or something. But then you told him what had happened and that you were only fake dating Matt.” She mused.
I laughed. “I’ll start from the beginning.” I began.
“I think that’s a good idea, it sounds like a complex story.”
“I broke up with Zack after he cheated on me, obviously, and one day before a lesson, he saw me in the corridor and was really angry because I had broken Leonie’s nose.” I recapped. “He backed me into the wall and was talking to me, I said something that provoked him and he was ready to hit me.”
“Whoa.” She gasped. “I knew he was an arsehole for cheating on you, but I can see why you hate him so much now! He didn’t actually hit you did he?”
“No. That’s when Jord arrived. I kneed him in the groin and he actually swung his fist at me.” I shivered at the memory. I could still feel the air as it nearly hit me in the face. Grace looked positively aghast. “Jord pulled him away from me and shoved him into another wall. Zack kneed Mr. Armstrong in the stomach and then Mr. Armstrong knocked him out.”
“Mr. Armstrong knocked Zack out. A student.” She repeated, as if I was mad.
“Yeah, but he shouldn’t have done it. He should have just let Zack hit me, it would have caused a lot less trouble.” I told her.
“What?!”
I sighed. “Zack told Mrs. Danks what had happened, minus the part where he had almost hit me, obviously, wanting to press charges on Jord for assault.”
“That’s where the police come in.” Grace worked out.
I nodded. “Exactly. When Mrs. Danks called me and Mr. Armstrong to her office and asked us to recall the events, Mrs. Danks suspended Jord and told us she would be informing the police. That’s when I blurted out that he tried to rape me.”
Grace looked incredulous. “Why on Earth did you do that! It will have just made it worse! What would have happened if someone found out you were making it up! And what about Zack, he never tried to rape you!” She exploded.
I looked down guiltily. “I know, I know it was the wrong thing to do, okay?” I admitted.
“Then why did you do it?” She asked, exasperated.
“Because she was going to fire Jord! He might have been sent to prison! I couldn’t let that happen, not when it was because he had only protected me in the first place. I just did the first thing that came into my head to stop him losing his job.”
“But he did assault Zack.” Grace pointed out.
I shook my head. “No he didn’t. It was self-defence. Zack had really tried to hurt Mr. Armstrong. You should have seen his stomach after Zack kneed him.” I contradicted her, shuddering at how in pain Jord had looked.
“I suppose self-defence was alright, but why didn’t you just tell the truth? It would have been much less hassle.”
I shrugged. “The case wouldn’t have been as strong. Plus, I never actually planned to pursue it. I decided that I could convince Zack to drop his case because mine was that much stronger than his.” I explained. “It didn’t work though. Zack thought there was more chance of me breaking and giving in than actually going through with it. It went too far and the police got involved.”
