I always wondered how Urahara managed to turn his basement into a desert, did the law of physics not apply to that man? Also, why does he carry around a cane?
"We'll decide if the two of you are worthy of joining, based on the level of your skill shown while we battle," Tōshirō explained.
"Wait, so we're going to be fighting you?" I was unsure if I could handle it. I already developed feelings from the short amount of time we spent together. I hate falling for people so easily, it's a good thing I barely talked to him. "If you're a captain then we'd be at a disadvantage. Shouldn't we fight Rangiku or Renji?"
"No, the fight isn't about defeating me, even if you lose you'll still pass based solely on your skill." He pulled out his zanpakutō, preparing himself and walking away, expecting me or my sister to follow. My sister started to go but I stopped her, wanting to battle him first to get it over with.
There was enough space for the battle, everyone else observing from a distance. It felt wrong and weird. Was this the only way to be in the group of 'heroes'? This seemed so unofficial, but what would I know? I was uncertain and maybe Tōshirō could tell since he muttered the words, good luck, while drawing his sword. I did the same, revealing my own. The blade was a lemon chiffon color and the hilt was electric blue with white fabric wrapped over it.
"Begin!" Rangiku shouted, starting a timer. We sprinted towards one another, our swords clashing, protecting us from any damage. Knowing my skill wouldn't be shown through the defense, I decided to be the first to attack. I made multiple fast blade strikes, each one emitting a quick bolt of lightning. Tōshirō countered each slash, directing them elsewhere before we broke away from one another. He prepared to retaliate but he faltered from the sudden pain. Though the blade never reached Tōshirō and the lighting was redirected, it still shredded his sleeves, leaving long red burns on his skin because of the heat. Within the short time he took to glance at his new wounds, I appeared behind him and landed a kick on his lower back that sent him flying across the room.
Ignoring the pain he gets up from the ground and steadied himself calling upon his sword, Hyōrinmaru. His sheath dissolved and his blade vanished, ice spread towards his back to create a pair of wings. From the looks of it, he was no longer holding back. He froze the water around him and they took the shape of daggers. They're sent towards me with great speed, I dodged them the best I could only for them to take me by surprise, piercing me from behind. I used my sword to keep myself from collapsing and used haidō fifty-seven to lift chunks of the ground and send them his way. While he dodged the attacks I healed myself with kaidō to continue the battle.
"Clap Kapheira." A series of lightning struck from the ground, shooting upwards through Tōshirō causing him to let out an anguished cry. He falls to the ground with his eyes rolled to the back of his head and his wings faded.
Did I take things too far? Was I out of line? I asked myself while racing towards his unconscious body, the others approached him as well to see his condition.
"Guess there's no need for this to continue, you passed with flying colors." Rangiku cheered, stopping the timer.
"What about Hitsugaya? Is he gonna be okay? I didn't mean to..." I started to get emotional out of fear of being punished for injuring a captain, but Rangiku reassured me that everything was going to be fine.
"Renji will heal him. He'll be back to normal by the time your sister is done battling Captain Zaraki." Ichigo's eyes widened in fear.
"How is that fair?" He questioned Rangiku. "Zaraki is the captain of the direct combat division."
"Remember Ichigo, they don't have to win. They have to manage to show their skill in a battle with a captain, which you and I are not."
