"I don't think that's possible," Renji answered while sitting on the wooden floors outside. "I never heard any stories about anyone reporting a captain." I was planning on reporting her, but even if I couldn't, I would at least let my captain know about the moment so that he'd never put me in a weird place. I sat next to him, finding it useless to go on pacing back and forth. "I don't think she meant to upset you."

"I'm not upset, I just feel like she only said it to get a certain reaction." I explained. "If she cared about titles she would have also called Rangiku, Lieutenant, but she called her by her first name." I pause and take a breath before continuing. "I think this has everything to do with you."

"What do you mean?" He was genuinely confused at the idea.

"You said she was your old crush when you were younger. What if you couldn't see that she felt the same way about you, so you unknowingly stopped the chances of her being with you once we got together?" Renji puts his hand on his chin as if he's considering it to be true before groaning in disagreement.

"She only recently became a Captain." I shrugged my shoulders, not caring for the excuse. There is no reason for her to try and use me as some stepping stone to gaining whatever respect she thought she would earn from it. "She probably saw it as her doing what she believed was expected from her." No matter the reasons he came up with, I knew she was only doing it because of personal feelings. I also knew that Renji was letting his biases blind him from reality, but for now, I would let him hold on to his fantasy until I had proof.

I decided that I would try and clear up any misunderstanding Captain Kuchiki may have had. We didn't have to become the best of friends, but she was a captain and I knew that if she wanted she would make my job a lot harder than it already was, so becoming an acquaintance would be enough for now. That way we wouldn't have to bicker. I walk into her office and see that she is talking with Rangiku again.

"What brings you here?" Rangiku asked, sighting me before the captain. I smiled at her and looked towards Captain Kuchiki.

"What are you doing here?" She repeated the question raising an eyebrow.

"I just wanted to let you know that I wasn't trying to correct you as a way to get under your skin but to clear up the misunderstanding we had." I explained. She didn't respond immediately but instead looked down at her desk and thought to herself for a minute.

"I'm willing to move past the altercation, just change the way you speak to me from now on." She advised me. "Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to continue speaking with Rangiku." She didn't have to tell me twice, I left the room with a bad taste in my mouth. I couldn't help but think she only said those words to save face in front of Rangiku.
