"You can't keep using Rukia as an excuse. It gets old." Renji grumbled, it was clear that he was upset about me not showing up.
"I can if it's the truth. She told me that she would let you know." I explained wanting him to calm down, I didn't like seeing him unhappy.
"No, it isn't. She would have alerted my captain if she kept you longer." He argued. "Why are you constantly trying to make it seem like she's out to get you? She isn't like that!" He yelled, taking me by surprise, but I wasn't going to match him. A yelling match wouldn't solve anything.
"Does the truth upset you? She's just showing more of her true colors. Yes, she's nice to you and some other people, but she doesn't like me. That's why I'm receiving a different experience."
"Let's stop talking about her now, lately it's always Rukia, Rukia, Rukia! You're obsessed with her at this point." He said with an unfamiliar look of annoyance. I sighed and looked at the ground, no longer able to make eye contact with him.
"I'm sorry that this upsets you, but that isn't a reason to invalidate my feelings and make me feel ridiculous." Even though I started to get a heavy feeling in my chest, I ignored it. "Can't you just have a conversation with her and see if she has anything against me? If she says no then I'll let it go."
"That's the thing, she has nothing against you. She isn't planning your demise. She isn't jealous of you when there's nothing to be jealous of." For a minute I'm not able to respond because of the embarrassment I felt. I was ashamed. How low have my standards gone for me to wind up with this jerk?
"You're right, Renji. I was just overreacting." My voice wavered as I spoke. I leave his room and the barracks as well. I went home and opened the door seeing my sister, Luella, was visiting again.
"How's your day?" She asked cheerily, but I ignored her, rushing off to my room and crying myself to sleep.

It wasn't even twelve yet, but Rangiku was already complaining about the amount of work she would be doing.
"It's too early in the morning, captain." She groaned, dropping her head onto her desk causing a few papers to slide onto the floor.
"Lieutenant Abarai will be here any minute to help you and of course by that I mean you're going to have him do all the work." I knew she wouldn't take her job seriously while I was on break, but at this point, I don't care who does the work as long as it's completed. Renji walked into the office ready to work, but his attitude was different than usual.
"Hey, what's with that look on your face? Are you trying to back out?" Rangiku asked with a worried look because she knew I would make her do the work by herself if he left. After all, I was spending my break watching her work, there was no escaping this time.
"It has nothing to do with the work. I'm grateful for this opportunity to be here, it's just... I think I messed up."
"What happened? Did Ichigo beat you again or something?" Rangiku asked, encouraging him to tell her the situation. Renji explained the entire argument he had last night with his girlfriend and how he regretted it. There was a lot to unpack here, but I couldn't bring myself to get involved.
"I want to believe her, but I feel like she's using Rukia as a cover and spends her time with someone else." He added.
"Check her hours if it makes you feel better," Rangiku suggested with her head still on her desk. "Captain Kurotsuchi will be able to help."
"Thanks, I'll visit his division when I'm finished working." He said rather happy.
"Should you be in a relationship with someone you don't trust?" I asked, sure breakups are bad and can take some time getting over, but the relationship was already over if he didn't trust her.
