"I never knew how lost people were without stop signs." I sighed as Hinamori and I stared at the car accidents while we stood over the city. "Usually they put a traffic guard on the road to avoid all this."
"Over there, " Hinamori pointed to a misshapen billboard. "Whoever is responsible left a way to track them."
"They made it obvious, it's most definitely another trap." I pointed out the trail of twisted metal and she agreed. "We're either going to be ambushed or they made an honest mistake." We quickly followed the trail in hopes of catching up with the culprit. The trail had led us to an electrical substation.
"This is bad," Hinamori said near a whisper. "They'll cause a major power outage if we don't find them in time. We'll split up but don't let your guard down and don't use your zanpakutō here, it'll mess up the city's power." She warned me and I nodded in response before we went our separate ways. We scoped the area thoroughly but found no one, which was odd because the whole time I could feel a pair of eyes staring into me. Even though we couldn't see the culprit, they were most definitely there.
"Did you have any luck?" Hinamori asked.
"No, but it's clear the person we're dealing with is a coward." I insulted them knowing they were in earshot. "It's obvious they can only attack defenseless people since they're undoubtedly weak."
"You sound so sure of yourself when you talk." As expected the person started to reveal themselves, the sound of their footsteps coming closer. The person stepped into the light and we were able to see them, unlike the last enemy, this one was a woman. Her skin was honey brown and her eyes were the color of a lapis lazuli. Her kinky, dark brown hair fell above her shoulders. Like us, she had on a shihakushō, except hers was an illuminating emerald. I admit, she was beautiful, but that wouldn't be enough to keep me from taking her in.
"And you are?" I asked.
"Mayu, " Even though she wore a smile on her face, her voice was monotonous. "I'm only doing what was ordered of me, but if you choose to intervene I will have no choice but to kill you."
"Well I don't plan on letting you continue, so I guess this is the part where you draw your sword, and we battle." My zanpakutō materialized in my hand and I assumed a battle stance.
"You can't be serious. Did you forget I can alter the form of any metal?" Mayu asked, tilting her head.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath as I dismissed my sword. "Welp, there are other ways of taking you down."
"I don't like dealing with stubborn people." Mayu sighed, pulling out her weapon. It was rather plain, the blade being a pale silver and the hilt dark lava. "I won't let you stand in my way." She sprinted towards Hinamori thinking she'd catch her off guard but their swords clashed, proving that killing her wouldn't be an easy feat. As they battled one another Mayu's zanpakutō started to turn red as if it was getting hotter by the second. With each strike she made, she would intentionally aim for Tobiume. It didn't take long for Mayu to cut Hinamori's blade in half.
"Tobiume!" Hinamori looked at her damaged zanpakutō in sorrow. While caught off guard, Mayu goes to strike her.
"Bakudō #1, Sai." Using kidō I bind Mayu's hand behind her back.
"Hadō #4, Byakurai." I quickly moved aside, pale lighting running past me as I did so. Mayu dropped to her knees and a hole is seen above her right breast. "Can you carry her back to the seireitei?" I nodded and threw her over my shoulder and Hinamori opened a senkaimon.
