I sat at the desk where I would normally be doing my work. Now that it was confirmed that the trial was happening, and they were currently getting the eyewitnesses together, it dawned on me that I never thought about what would happen if I lost. I didn't think of Luella or how this would affect her, but it was too late. Then again maybe Kuchiki wouldn't have it in her to finish me off and I'll instead just have to live with the humiliation of threatening a captain and then being at their mercy.
"I can't believe this is happening." Captain Hirako entered the room knowing I'd be waiting here. "When you become captain we're going to team up and terrorize Kensei after we complete our duties of course." I stood up from the chair and walked towards him ready to follow him to the thirteenth division. "Before you do this, just know that no matter what happens, everyone will know the truth. So win or lose, your name will be redeemed." I didn't know what he meant by that but it gave me relief.
When we arrived at the division and went to the location where the fight would be held, there were many people around, most being her subordinates but I did take note of the fact that Ikkaku, Rangiku, and Renji showed up. What stood out was the fact that all the captains came, then again a trial by combat rarely happened so maybe that was the reason, but then why would Mayuri and Byakuya be interested? Captain Hirako and I went our separate ways after he wished me luck for the fifth time. I walked into the large rectangular space meeting Kuchiki to the center.
"You do know there were other ways you could've gone about this, right?" I asked her. "But now you just might die from the petty bullshit."
"There's a reason they made me captain, but it seems I have to show you since you keep forgetting." I scoffed at her cockiness. It was pretty audacious of her to bring that up, knowing things would be different if she wasn't in a powerful noble family.
"You're only a captain because your brother usually has good judgment, so everyone overlooked your toxic flaws." My zanpakutō materialized in my hand. She was going to receive every bit of pent-up frustration and anger I developed from her actions.
"I don't think you should be rushing into battle, after all, you could die." She pulled out her zanpakutō and took a battle stance.
"Then forfeit."
