Chapter 9

I push the key into the door and turn it to the left. The door swings open and I step inside. "I'm home!" I yell but am greeted by complete silence. Ah... some time all to myself. I run up the stairs listening to the sound of my own footsteps. Taking a sharp turn to the left as I walk into my bedroom. I throw my bag onto my bed. Ah... Time to relax. At least I thought it was time to relax...

I see the screen of my phone light up and a certain name appears. Asher. I grab my phone and unlock it so I can read the entire message. Hi Eden, How are you? I was just wondering if you knew what we had to do for Science Homework? Science Homework? I saw him write it down, I guess it was an excuse to text me. Not that I am complaining in any way, shape or form. Oh Hey Asher, I'm great thanks. For Science we had to do the crossword on page 114 and complete page 115 in our workbook. I reread my message several times before finally hitting send. I think that sounds ok. I place my phone carefully on my bedside table and leave my room.

The smashing of cupboards is all that can be heard as my mum walks through the door. "Eden, what are you doing?" my mum asks.

"I'm trying to make a snack." I tell her.

"Why don't you make some cheese straws? I'll help if you want," she suggests.

"Sure," I say as I scurry over to the book shelf. Quick Snacks and Recipes. Where could it be? I search high and then low before seeing it smack bam in the middle. I hand it over to mum as she flips through the pages to find the recipe for cheese straws. I open all the cupboards searching for the ingredients as my mum calls them out. "Mum, I'll be right back."

"Ok," she says as I rush up the stairs to check my phone. A single message from Asher is shown. Thanks Eden, maybe we could work together on our homework one day. He replied. Wait! What?!?! He wants to work on his homework with me one day... A huge smile explodes onto my face and a rush of excitement takes over my body from head to toe.
