2 Weeks after Asher left (Eden's POV)
I just paid and I'm making my way towards the back of the bus like I do every morning. But the smile waiting for me at the back isn't there any more. It's the first day back after the holidays and this term is going to be very different. I look down and take a seat. Grace takes a seat next to me as I take my bag off and put it on my knees. "Hey, it doesn't have to be a bad thing," Grace says.
"You don't understand," I stress back to her like I have every day since Asher left. Grace may be my twin but Asher was my boyfriend and no matter what, he always knew what to say. Now he's gone. His parents are closely monitoring his texts to make sure I don't know where he is. I don't know why they want to keep us apart but at least we can still text. I definitely don't want our one way of communication to be taken away.
...
"Well done to everyone for the fantastic talent show performances," Mrs Williams congratulates the class, "Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Asher who has moved." She looks at me and gives me a look that says 'I'm sorry'. I mouth 'thanks' to her and look across at the empty seat. The person that meant so much to me is... gone. "I have a special congratulation for Amy, Dayna, Ally and Finn who won with their string quartet!" I have my head hung low and am just looking down at my desk. Jess, who is sitting next to me wraps her arm across my back to comfort me. I want to flick her off... but I don't. Asher wouldn't want me to be upset but I am. This is the first day of school without him and I've barely made it through one class. I used to always look up and catch him staring at me and then his gorgeous smile would make and appearance. His smile was just one part of him that could make me smile. His smile brightened up my day and made me realise why I liked him in the first place. I wonder how Asher's day is going?
Asher's POV
Ugh... it's my first day at my new school and I'm loving it, well... mostly. There's one thing missing. Eden and my other friends. The school is well known for its music department and I know Eden would love it. I'm surrounded by new faces and none of them know what I left behind. "So Asher, would you like to introduce yourself?" my new music teacher Mr Lawson asks.
"Sure," I answer and approach the front of the class. I watch everyone turn and stare at me as I begin to introduce myself, "Well I'm Asher O'brien and I moved here during the holidays. I play the Violin and I can also play a bit of piano and I also sing. Um... yeah."
"Asher, could you come back here at lunch and I'll sign you up for a choir and also the orchestra?" Mr Lawson says.
"Um sure," I say and head back to my seat and sit down.
"So class, this term we are going to be doing small group performances as our performance assessment. Please make Asher feel welcome and if you need a violinist or vocalist, I'm sure Asher will be happy to join your group," Mr Lawson tells the class.
"Do you want to work with Asher?" I hear someone whisper to the person sitting next to them.
"Sure, he's hot and I'm sure he'll be a great violinist," the other person answers. I can't fall for any of these people, I'm with Eden and can feel our connection and I hope it won't ever break.
"Ok class, so if you could all go and find some groups. Groups of anything between about 3 and 5." That one command sends the class into chaos. Students rushing to their friends and the best musicians in the class. The two girls who I heard talking approach me.
"Hey, I'm Lily and this is Georgia. I play the cello and Georgia plays violin. We were wondering if you wanted to join us?" the girl asks.
"I guess so, but can I see what everyone else is thinking of first?" I ask them.
"Sure," Georgia says. They follow me over to everyone else as I go to see what else is up for offer.
"Um... hi," I say.
"We already have 5 people," one of the girls snaps back with a stuck up tone. That's it I decide and can't even be bothered to ask others.
"Lily. Georgia. Looks like I'm with you," I say.
"Cool, now we have to pick a song," Lily says.
"Um... by the way, I'm taken. I heard you say I was hot so I thought I'd mention that," I tell her.
"Oh um..." she says and her face goes bright red.
"Yeah, we know a long distance relationship is going to be hard but I'm confident with it. What we have is special and I know we can keep our bond strong," I tell her.
Sam's POV
"Hey Eden," I say.
"Hi," she replies.
"Um... are you alright with Asher leaving and all?" I ask, I knew I would be able to pick her up one day and be the guy of her dreams.
"Yeah, we still talk," she tells me and that's when I know that becoming her boyfriend may not be as easy as I first thought.
