"Grace, how's your room looking? Tidy enough? Annabel will be here soon," Mum yells up the stairs. It feels so strange to call her mum now that I know Mrs Withers is my real mum.
"It looks fine," I yell just as the doorbell rings. Mum opens the door and greets Annabel as she walks in the door.
"Mum, could we sit down at the table? We have something to tell you," I tell mum and she makes her way over to the table with Annabel and I following her closely behind.
"What is it?" Mum asks.
"Well, you've heard of the LGBT community right?" I ask her.
"Yeah, what about it?" she gives me a strange look, "You're not part of it are you?"
"Well, um.... This might be a bad time to mention that Annabel is my girlfriend. I'm Bisexual..." I say and she stands up and crosses her arms.
"You know I don't agree with that," she tells me.
"Well I can't help it," I shout back at her fighting back tears. Annabel begins to wrap her arm around my back to comfort me.
"Grace, you can just get out of this house. Being a lesbian is not right and you should not continue with it. Go back to your real mother and see if she'll allow it!" she yells and I storm out of the house with Annabel comforting me. I make sure to slam the door behind me as I leave the house. Ugh... I knew it might have been to soon. Time to talk to the woman who gave birth to me. Hopefully she'll accept me for who I am.
...
I'm approaching Eden's house hoping my second coming out will be better. Annabel came out to her parents when she was 13 and they were awfully accepting of their daughter. I get to meet her parents next week too. I knock on the door and am greeted by Mrs Withers or in other words... My Mum. She notices the tears and quickly embraces me in a tight warm hug. "What's wrong sweetie?" she asks me.
"I...I..." I struggle to spit the words out but Annabel gets the hint.
"She got kicked out of home because of something she told her mum," Annabel informs my mum although I wish she didn't call Mrs James my mum.
"And who might you be?" my mum asks.
"I'm Annabel... Grace's girlfriend," she adds.
"Congrats sweetheart!" mum exclaims. I'm so glad she's happy for me. She lets me out of her arms as we head for the couch.
"So, why did Mrs James kick you out?" mum asks.
"I told her I was bisexual. She told me it wasn't right and that I should just get out of the house," I explain.
"Aw... sweetheart... You can move back in with us if you want, I'll go get your stuff and explain to Mrs James that you are going to live with me now."
...
I waited patiently in the car while my real mum walked up and knocked on the door of what was my previous house. I lived there for like 15 years and it's so sad to say goodbye but I have to. Mrs James isn't accepting of me so why should I have to deal with her. So what if I have a girlfriend. I should be allowed to like who I like and no one can tell me otherwise.
