When Jisung reached home, he was reminded of a different problem he had created for himself not too long ago.
Seungmin.
"You took your time!" Seungmin yelled as Jisung neared.
"Hi to you as well, Seungmin." Jisung sighed. "How long have you been waiting here?"
"Long enough? I don't know, it's not like I was counting." Seungmin replied, sassily.
"Seungmin, it's late." Jisung stated, pushing past Seungmin to his front door. "Let's talk tomorrow."
"Oh no, you don't." Seungmin stuck his arm out in front of Jisung, stopping him from going home. "You promised to tell me, ok? I cancelled my date for you!"
Jisung groaned, rolling his eyes as he wondered why he made such a stupid promise when it was one he couldn't even keep. However, a promise was a promise and if there was one thing Jisung hated, it was to break someone's trust in him.
And that was how they both ended up sat on Jisung's bed with the paper crane Jisung had collected that night in between them.
"You're not gonna believe me even if I tell you." Jisung muttered, knowing how odd his story really was.
"Try me." Seungmin challenged, confidently. "I just gave up a date, I'll believe pretty much anything at the moment."
"Ok," Jisung took a deep breath. "Do you remember when I had a lead for those serial murders 6 months ago?"
"Yeah," Seungmin nodded, remembering the incident. "But didn't chief say that you were delusional and looking way too into things?"
"Don't remind me." Jisung scowled. "Anyways, I wasn't delusional, those invitations were leading me to the criminal. I just haven't been able to catch him yet."
"What do you mean?" Seungmin asked, unable to follow what Jisung was saying.
Jisung tried his best to explain from the start, filling Seungmin in with everything that had happened in the past 6 months.
"So, what?" Seungmin asked, when Jisung was finished. "Today you went again to try and catch this Crane?"
"Yeah, but I missed him." Jisung murmured, the image of the assistant's lifeless body resurfacing in his memory.
"Why would you try and do something so dangerous by yourself?" Seungmin scolded, hitting Jisung's arm. "What if you became one of the victims? Or even a suspect? What would you do? What would I do?"
"Ok, I'm sorry!" Jisung yelled back, cowering away from Seungmin's hand. "I couldn't bring myself to get anyone else involved. I don't want to put you or anyone else in danger."
"Well, now I know." Seungmin said. "So, tell me if you need help, because, If I'm being completely honest, I have nothing to do nowadays. Especially since you made me cancel my date." He grumbled, childishly.
"Right... sorry about that." Jisung apologised, sheepishly.
"I'm kidding, she wasn't the one anyways." Seungmin shook his head, smiling. "Now, tell me what you've worked out so far."
Just like that, Jisung and Seungmin stayed up late looking through Jisung's box of paper cranes, trying to decipher the messages within them.
"Maybe Crane was scapegoated in the past?" Seungmin said, looking at the most recent one Jisung had received. "This could all be some sort of revenge plan?"
"I hadn't even thought of that yet!" Jisung realised, noting it down for future reference.
Although the two of them had stayed up late, they didn't get much done. Jisung was exhausted from his chaotic night as a waiter and Seungmin was tired after doing an extra shift's worth of work. Soon enough, they both fell asleep, too tired to think any longer.
