False's communicator buzzed, her custom ringtone for the admin being a bee, to remind her of beesuma. It meant she instantly knew it was him, so she rested her sword on the ground to look at the messages.Xisuma regularly chatted to everyone, forcing everyone but himself to sleep when people were up at 3 am. However now, it was early morning, about 10 am, and she'd just started working on her pvp practice before she'd been interrupted by her communicator.
It was a fairly short message, asking her if she'd like to play a round of a new minigame he'd made, called Duels. Nothing complicated, nothing unusual. It was a familiar occurrence on the Hermitcraft server. He told her to come with no belongings so she couldn't lose anything, saying that the armour and weapons would be provided, with choices of 3 kits.
Not thinking anything in particular was off, False grabbed an elytra and some firework rockets, flying towards the coordinates provided. They were about 5000 blocks from spawn, and when she arrived, she placed the elytra and fireworks in the ender chest provided. She didn't both setting her spawn, despite the nearby bed - maybe she was overconfident, but she'd beaten the admin many times before.
She smiled at Xisuma, the small arena being quite neatly designed, but not anything overly complicated. It was about 20 blocks each way, an entrance on either side to mark out each area. Strange lettering was plastered across the sides of the arena, unfamiliar to False, but it surely meant something in whatever admin language he spoke.
"Hey X!" False said cheerily, stepping into a patch of shade; he responded happily with his face lit up with a smile. It was a welcome break from the relentless heatwave the server had been experiencing recently, the leaves blocking out the almost red sun and allowing some cool air.
"Hey False! You okay testing this minigame?" He asked. "It's fine if you don't, but I'd appreciate it." False shrugged, pulling her hair tighter.
"I'm up for that, sounds fun!" She leaned against the concrete. "What's it about?"
"It's pretty simple really - you pick a kit and fight against an opponent for points," Xisuma explained, an almost excited air to him.
"I wouldn't think you'd need much redstone to get that to work," False questioned, slightly confused but still willing to help. "Does it need testing?"
"It doesn't have any redstone at all - it's not the technical side really that I need testing, just the concept." Despite the casual tone, False still felt slightly uneasy. Why did the concept need testing? Nevertheless, she brushed it off. What did it matter, she'd respawn anyway.
"That sounds fun!" False told him supportively. "I'd love to be a part of this!" She looked at set with an iron sword.
"You want that one?" False nodded, roughly tugging it out of the item frame. Xisuma ran over to the other side of the wall, selecting a kit False hadn't initially seen, but she couldn't fully recognise what it contained before Xisuma shouted at her to go through the entrance.
False's first impression of the arena was of fire. It was designed like the nether, a mishmash of cyan and fiery red covering the floor and creeping up the walls. It was a very clever design - False knew this arena was perfect for fighting in. It wasn't too distracting, but helped her get in the zone as she focused on getting ready to fight.
"I'm not going easy on you," Xisuma laughed, fiddling with his glowing sword. His smile was too bright, too cheerful, but it wasn't obvious if you weren't staring at it - and who stared at someone's lips?
"I wouldn't expect you to, that would sap the fun out of it!" Getting into position, leg against the wall so that she could push off it when the fight began. She heard 3 dings, each one relaxing her more and more - whether that was a good thing or not was debatable. Finally, the starting siren went off, beginning the fight.
She quickly leapt towards Xisuma, blade meeting blade almost immediately. She ducked down, trying to get through his defence from underneath, hoping for a quick and easy win. Alas, this hit was blocked yet again, the scraping of metal once again sounding. This time, Xisuma was much more aggressive, an overwhelming excess of power going into the hit. Despite being able to deflect the blade from actually hitting her, the blonde still found herself against the wall.
Rolling away from his next hit, sword lines were etched into the wall as False continued to deflect or dodge the hits. She finally gathered enough power to be able to logically hit back. She pulled back her axe in her offhand, letting it fling into his shield and taking the opportunity to thrust her sword into his leg. It managed to get through the armour, but only went about halfway through his leg. She pulled it back out, preparing to strike again in a similar fashion, before it was forced out of her hand.
Now disarmed, she was practically helpless as Xisuma pressed her into a corner, because while she was strong at physical fighting, she was no match for the admin. He used the axe-embedded shield to keep her hanging, metal pressing into her neck and drawing little slivers of blood every time she moved.
It was only as she studied the sword that she noticed it wasn't netherite like she'd first assumed; it had a strange texture similar to obsidian, but that might just be a custom design.
Stepping away briefly, X hesitated for a second, before slamming the sword into her stomach in a similar style as she'd done earlier. Poisonous stinging instantly started to seep from the wound, and against all first aid training she remembered, the admin pulled it back out. She supposed he wouldn't want to help her considering they were fighting.
Blood seeped through her torso, dripping onto the floor as the shield finally came loose with all her wriggling. She collapsed onto the floor, completely unable to fight now. She'd seen her enemies in this position many times, but this was the first time she'd lost so badly in years. She barely had time to dwell on it however, as darkness proceeded to engulf her mind, for what she didn't know it yet, but what would be the last time.
It didn't matter anyway.
She could just respawn.
