Chapter 29 - With-Child

"Natsumi?" Akane comes upstairs to try and wake my up. I have my blankets over my head. It's bright when you look out the window because of the snow outside.

"Mm?" I hum to him in response.

"It's 2 o'clock... You should probably get up." He says.

"Mm... No." I shift a bit before going back to sleep.

Akane chuckles. "Natsumi, you have to get used to this time zone. It might get hard, but it'll get easier after a while."

I groan again, still half asleep and not listening.

That's when I hear another set of footsteps coming up the stairs. All of a sudden, the blankets are pulled off of me and Ren is spraying cold water at me with a squirt bottle.

I immediately jump out of bed and Ren runs back down the stairs, his grouchy sister coming after him. "You little brat! Let me fucking sleep!"

"It's the afternoon! Wake up!" He calls back to me.

"Well I'm awake now you little idiot!" I eventually tackle him to the ground, taking the bottle from him. As he tries to wriggle out of my grip, I pin him down on his stomach and screw off the top of the bottle. When it's off, I pour the water down his back.

"Akane!" He calls. He gasps when the cold water runs down his back.

"Your brother isn't helping you now, you asked for this. You shoulda thought twice before waking me up with water."

"Okay! Get off!" He exclaims, hitting the ground with his hand.

When I do, he gets up and takes off his hoodie that he was wearing. "Gosh, I'm all wet now."

I shrug. "Too bad. Go change."

"You go change." He mutters back.

I smack him in the back of his head and he yelps in protest. "Fine. Geez." He says, stalking to his room.

When I meet Akane's gaze, he chuckles. "You're already acting like a sister."

I raise my eyebrows. "Is that so? I guess it's just instinctive reactions." My comment makes Akane beam.

"That's good. Anyways, do you wanna head into town, or just sleep all day?"

His joke makes me laugh. "I'm very tempted to choose the second choice, but I'll go get ready. I wanna see this place anyway." I leap back up the stairs and gather my things to get ready for the day.

"REN, I SWEAR TO GOD I'M TEARING OUT EVERY PATCH OF HAIR FROM YOUR UGLY HEAD IF YOU DO THAT ONE MORE TIME!!!" I say this after he throws a piece of bread at my face for the millionth time.

"What? I'm feeding the ducks. Oh! I'm sorry, forgive me. Your face looked like it had a beak." He says, smirking.

That ticks me off and I lunge towards him. He falls out of his chair as an attempt to get away from me while Akane grabs me so I can't reach him. "Alright, Natsumi, leave the kid be. He might be a jerk but you can't kill him just yet."

I sigh, raising my arms in surrender. Akane lets go, sitting down once more. I'm about to do the same before I see Ren stick his tongue out at me as he's getting up. I instantly jump over his chair, tackling him back to the ground. Akane springs back into action, grabbing me again and dragging me off of my brother.

"You're such a dick!" I yell at Ren, kicking at him. The boy laughs when I miss.

"You mi- UGH!" He exclaims when I kick him in the groin. Akane cringes and Ren crumples to the ground, covering it with his hands. "Uuuugh."
