Chapter 41 - Love Herself Again

Todoroki's Age - 25

Tora's Age - 9

Ren's Age - 23

Natsumi sits on her bed, shuffling through the pictures of Todoroki and Tora that they mailed to her. Her little boy is growing up so fast. Todoroki told her about his quirk a couple years ago.

His left side is able to manipulate both fire and ice, though not at the same time. The blue color will overtake his eye if he activates the ice and the gray will overtake if he uses fire.

On his right side, he's able to manipulate matter like she's able to. It just takes a lot of energy to do so and gets a headache quickly. His purple eye also glows when he activates that quirk. Holding that much power in his body is definitely risky. His power is also held in his eyes, so if you take them, you take his quirk.

They've let her talk to them over the phone and Todoroki has taken Tora to see her a couple times before. But she still wishes she could've been there for Tora as he grew up. He started grade school without her being there. He's made a couple friends. And it must be hard for him to know that his mother is mentally ill and has killed people.

She sighs before the girl hears the door open, letting in light. The room is dark since it's in the middle of the night and the other people in the room are asleep.

Natsumi looks over to see a nurse coming in. She seems to have already known the patient was awake and the nurse brings over a bottle of water.

She smiles sweetly. "Having trouble sleeping again?"

Natsumi nods in reply, taking the bottle gratefully.

She sits on the side of her bed and glances at the photos. "So it's true. You're the mother of Pro Hero Shoto's son?"

Natsumi nods again.

She picks up a photo and looks at it with admiration. Not for Todoroki or Tora, but for the woman she's been assigned to for the past couple days. "He turned out beautifully."

The patient smiles. "Thankyou."

The nurse looks at her before setting the picture down gently. "It's 3. It's your birthday today."

Natsumi blinks, surprised. "Is it?"

The nurse laughs softly. "It is. We have a big surprise planned for you." Her whisper makes Natsumi think.

"Surprise? For my birthday?" She asks.

The other girl nods. "Now try to go to sleep. We don't want you tired tomorrow."

When the nurse gets up, Natsumi follows her actions with her gaze. When the door shuts, she pauses. Then, Natsumi looks down at her wrist at the band that's canceling her quirk.

Surprise... She thinks.

Todoroki knocks on Tora's bedroom door lightly before going in. "Tora, time to get up. Get ready."

The boy grunts in reply.

"Hurry, please." The father says before going to the kitchen to start breakfast. It's almost 8:00 when Tora finally goes downstairs, rubbing his tired eyes.

"Dad, I'm gonna be late for school." He mutters.

Todoroki hands him a box of heated up dumplings. "Put on your jacket and get in the car." He tells his son before grabbing a bowl of cold soba and going to the door. He slips on his shoes and sets the bowl down for a couple moments so he can get on his own jacket.
