Brand New Beginning

chapter five

I woke up too an annoying blue jay chirping outside the window. I got up and hissed and the bird flew away. I smirked and walked back to the bed, my clock said it was six o'clock in the morning I sighed and sat on my bed. I heard a couple of nurses walk by my door so i instantly grabbed the contacts and put them on. I swore under my breath when I poked my own eye. Once they were in I slipped back into bed. A couple hours later Carlisle came in with Charlie next to him. "Alright Nicollete, Charlie wants to adopt you but theres another choice, you could live in a orphanage instead. Which one do you choose?" he asked. I would have normally chosen the orphanage but in this case I think i should try living with Charlie. "Ummm Charlie" I said getting up off the bed.

Charlie smiled and walked over to me. I tensed thinking he was going to hug me but instead he extended his hand. I relaxed and shook his hand. "Ok, well Nicollete seems to be fine so she can leave as soon as the paper work is done" Carlisle smiled the showed Charlie outside towards the nurses desk. I walked with them and it was then that i realized my backpack was missing. I gasped and started frantically searching for it all over the room. I heard someone cough behind me. I spun around and saw Charlie holding my bag I sighed with relief and walked over and took it.

He smiled and showed me out. Carlisle smiled and waved, all I could do was wave back. When we got into his car that was when the awkwardness set in. I clung to my bag and stared out the window. It was a small town, I could see the highschool and middle were close together. "I uh think your going to like it here" Charlie said. I turned to him and nodded then remebered he was driving and probably didn't see me. "Yea sure" I replied then went back to looking ahead. I saw him nod out of the corner of my eye.

When we finally reached his house we were happy to have something to do then sit around saying nothing. "Well this the house. Not much but its home" he said looking up at the house. "Its great" I said, i really ment it. it was a two story house that was painted white. He walked up to the door and i followed him. When he unlocked the door the whole room look cozy. It was nicely furnished and the kitchen was a decent size and didn't look infected with any rodents or insects. "You will be rooming with Bella, shes not home right now but she will be soon" I nodded as he led me upstairs. The room was a good size and there were two beds. one was by closet the other was next to the window.

"Well, what do you think?" he asked looking at me. "Its nice" I said looking at him, he smiled and walked back down stairs. I stayed in the room, i walked over to the bed that had a present on it. To:Nicollete From:Charlie and Bella. Guess this is my bed. I sat down and opened the present to find a necklace in the shape of a heart. It had a silver chain and on the heart was a rose. I smiled for the first time in awhile. I put the necklace on and set my bag on the bed. I heard the door open and then a female voice could be heard from downstairs. Guess Bella is home. Then I smelt it. A vampire was here i tensed and stood up. Suddenly a man was standing in the doorway. He had crimson hair and gold eyes. He hissed and crouched preparing to fight. I hissed aswell and was ready to defend myself. "Wait" a girl, probably Bella, said trying to get past him. "She is the girl Charlie adopted". Then something seemed to click so he stood up straight and let Bella through.

"Um hi, i'm Bella" she said extending her hand I straighted up too. "Hi, i'm Nicollete" I said then eyed Edward. "Sorry about that, he uh..." she couldn't think of anything good so i just told her what I knew. "I know hes a vampire" I told her, her eyes widened and looked between us. I might aswell tell her about me too. "I'm half-vampire" I said she backed up. There now they can kick me out. "Well thats ok, i'm used to being around vampires and werewolves" she said then went and stood next to the vampire. My eyes narrowed at the word werewolves then i regain posture by asking another question. "How can you be ok with me being half-vampire? Doesn't that bother you?" i asked. "No, Edward is my boyfriend and i'm 

really close with the cullens" she explained.

Oh so this must be one of the vampires Carlisle was talking about. Edwards eyebrows shot up. I sighed great he is a mind reader. I thought i saw the corners of his mouth go up but if it did it was back to a normal look. "Guys pizzas here" Charlie said. We all turned to leave but Edward made sure Bella was in front of him. This was going to be an awkward lunch.
