One Of Them

The Mountain City

Y/N POV

The next day after the dance I get dressed and head to the auditorium. Once there I ignore the speech Ozpin gives then head to the mission board. I walk with team RWBY and we take a search and destroy mission. After getting approved we head out to the airships and I face palm seeing the teacher I drugged.

Y/N: "We're fucked."

Weiss: "Professor Oobleck?"

Oobleck: "Yes I shall be your Huntsman. Your bags are not required so you are to leave them here since you have chosen what is basically a scouting job. I can assure you that no base shall be set up throughout this job. Rather we will walk across miles of dangerous lands and make camp at any acceptable place we may come across. I've packed all necessary essentials myself, plotted our course and readied the airship. And... it's doctor, I have a PhD. Now come along we are already behind schedule."

He zips to the airship and I feel no ounce of hope for us.

Ruby: "Looks like we'll be saving the world with Oobleck, okay it sounds far worse out loud."

Y/N: "I suppose if I'm with you clowns then something exciting might happen."

Yang: "What makes us the clowns?"

Y/N: "Because wherever you four are often dangerous high jinks tend to follow."

Yang: "We're not that bad."

Y/N: "Bullshit."

Weiss: "And here I thought we were your friends."

Y/N: "Wow, such kindness from a Schnee."

Weiss: "Quiet."

Y/N: "Annnnd it's gone."

She rolls her eyes and we all load up in the airship. We arrive at a ruined mountain town call Glenn. I hop off the bullhead to see a pack of Beowolves running to us. I bring back my arms to transform when RWBY rush forward and cut down the pack. When the last one turns to dust we just walk around the abandoned city.

Ruby: "Heh, piece of cake."

Oobleck: "Don't celebrate just yet for I am certain that this is the first bout of many."

The others put away their weapons and we continue to fight and search.

Oobleck: "Excellent work, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any signs of any criminal operations in this sector. Oh well moving on."

Yang: "Hey doc, you know I was actually looking forward to seeing a pro Huntsman in action. Like fighting or at least helping us fight."

Oobleck: "Ah but I am in action. Scouring the ruins of this once great city for any signs of irregularity. Not every mission is filled with daring and heroism. Sometimes it's just a heightened form of extermination. Remember, this is a job, and all of you signed up for it. I do hope you understand that."

Yang: "Of course."

Oobleck: "Mmm."

We continue to search until Oobleck appears out of nowhere and leans against the building.

Oobleck: "Why did you choose the life of a Huntsman Y/N?"

Y/N: "Because I was asked to. A man who took me in said I would learn everything I need to know about fighting here."

Oobleck hmms before motioning for me to follow after him. He leads me to our base where I see the others around the fire. I squat down by the fire and warm up my hands.

Oobleck: "Good, eat your dinners and get to bed. We have quite a bit of ground to cover tomorrow. We'll also need you all to take turns keeping watch. Anyone want to take first watch?"

Y/N: "I got it."

I stand up and sit down near an exposed portion of the building. Thirty minutes later I hear footsteps making me look to see Ruby making her way to me.

Y/N: "Did you need something?"

Ruby: "Just thought we could talk."

Y/N: "What about?"

Ruby: "Why do you act the way you do?"

Y/N: "Because I have to push people away."

Ruby: "But why?"

Y/N: "I don't know. Believe me I want to make friends and let people in. But every time I get ready to something in me forces me to shut down and push them away." *brings knees closer* "I don't know what it is, I just want it to stop."

I look at Ruby to see her scoot closer, place her hand on my shoulder and smile warmly.

Ruby: "Don't worry Y/N, we're here for you. Whatever is making you act this way we'll figure it out. We're your friends and we'll always be here for you."

I look at her and smile.

Y/N: "Thank you."
