ROHAN DEV RAICHAND

I was sound asleep in my room. Suddenly, my alarm jolted me awake at 6:30 am. Panicking, I quickly got out of bed, stumbled to the bathroom, did my thing, brushed my teeth, freshened up a bit, packed my college bag, and got dressed. Downstairs, I found my mom, dad, chachu, and chachi having breakfast at the dining table.

Grabbing a toast, I headed for the door. My mom shouted, "Dev, have your breakfast before you go!"

I replied, "Mom, I'm running late. The lecture starts at 7 am, and the professor won't let me in if I'm late."

With that, I grabbed my bike and raced to Sanya's house. Sanya Mirchandani is my girlfriend.

I rang her doorbell, and Nisha, her elder sister, answered, saying, "Hey, Rohan."

I replied, "Hey, call Sanya. We're running late."

Nisha informed me, "She just left with Payal. They must have reached college."

Surprised, I said, "Okay, Nish, bye."

She said, "Bye."

I hurried to college, parked my bike, and entered the building. Running upstairs, I saw my classmates wandering around the campus, including my best friends, Akash Malhotra and Sanket Gupta, who are my dear buddies from school.

Approaching them, I asked, "Why are our classmates wandering around?"

Sanket replied, "The lecture is canceled; the professor isn't in college today."

I said, "Okay. Have you seen Sanya?"

Akash informed me, "Dude, she's in the canteen with Payal."

I said, "Okay, guys, thanks. Meet me here again in a while."

I rushed to the canteen, found Sanya, and pulled her aside. She asked coldly, "What do you think you're doing?"

I responded, "You never came to college without me. We always came together. I've noticed you've been acting strangely for the past four days. You've never been like this in our two-year relationship."

I'm 20 years old, and Sanya is 18, in her first year, while I'm in my final year, both attending the same college.

I said, "Tell me, baby, what's bothering you?"

Sanya explained, "Look, Dev, you're a nice guy - mature, sensible, understanding, and friendly. The girl who ends up with you in the future will be really lucky. I want to break up. I've realized that I don't love you, and it's the same for you. It's just an attraction, and we're pretending in this relationship. I don't want that, Rohan. I want an ideal relationship. Let's just be friends like before. I'm not comfortable in this relationship. Please think calmly, Rohan, you'll understand."

I stared into her eyes, filled with anger. Gripping her shoulder, I said, "You were using me all this time to show off, like dating Rohan Raichand, the ultimate playboy, and then dumping him. I was dumped by the guy who used to play around, have relationships, and then drop people when bored. Now, you're bored of me. Really, Sanya? I thought you were my best friend."

Sanya said, "Believe me, I never used you. It wasn't my intention, Rohan. I can't explain more. I'm sorry."

Sanya walked away. We broke up. People usually feel heartbroken after a breakup, but I felt nothing, no emotions. I was just normal. Weird, isn't it?

I went to class, where Akash and Sanket were waiting. Sanket asked, "What's with the face, bud?" I recounted the whole story.

Akash said, "Bro, you two were always meant to be best friends. Sanya isn't the type to use and throw you away. You guys are family friends, grew up together. How could you think of her like this, Rohan? Honestly, answer me – was it all just a show? Were you attracted to her? Just wanted to experience a long relationship?"

After a moment of thought, I answered, "yes."

Sanket said, "Sanya is a really good girl. She might have her reasons to break up with you. You'll figure it out with time; just give her some space, dude. Enjoy life, go with the flow."

I said, "Yeah, you guys are right. Let's skip college and chill. After all, it's a Saturday."

Akash agreed, "Not a bad idea."

Sanket asked, "What should we do?"

I suggested, "Let's go to Randheer's house."

They said, "Yeah, good idea. It's been a long time since we met him." Randheer Bhatt is our childhood friend; we were inseparable in school and even today we are.

I got a call from Ishaan. I answered, "Yo bro, what's up?"

Ishaan said, "Hey Rohan, listen. Gautam and Nikhil have invited us to their house tonight. Their parents have gone to New York for some business. They're calling us to stay over and have a house party since it's Saturday night. Nirav, Me, Abhishek, Abhinav, Kabir are gonna be there. Are you coming?"

I replied, "Okay, I'll be there in the evening. See you at the Singhania residence."

Ishaan said, "Cool, I'll text Nik. Bye." We ended the call.

Akash suggested, "Let's go, guys."

I nodded and said, "Yeah, it's gonna be a fun-filled day."

THIRD PERSON POV

She hurried away from the scene, finding refuge in the canteen where Payal awaited. In a concerned tone, Payal asked, "Did you break up with him finally?"

Sanya admitted, "Yes, Payal. I wanted to explain the reason, but I couldn't. Besides, he was angry and misunderstood me. I lost a best friend, Payal. Rohan was a really good friend. I just hope he calms down."

Payal reassured, "Give him some space, Sanya. He will calm down. Don't you worry. Everything will be fine."

Sanya replied, "I hope so. Now, I'll just focus on my life and be friends with Rohan like before. I'm not going to be in a relationship with him again because I know we're not meant to be together. Anyway, let's go now."

Payal agreed, "Yeah, come. Be happy now."
