Ozpin: "The next time you want to throw a left cross remember to push off with the appropriate foot. And as always do be aware of any openings" Ruby winced and grunted in pain from her position on the floor, "Got it"

Jaune: "Well, that had to hurt" Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Kai watched from the sidelines of the backyard as Ozpin straightened himself, having just smacked Ruby around in hand to hand combat. Suddenly, there was a shimmer of energy and Oscar fell to his knees, breathing heavily.

Kai: "Hey, you okay there kid?" Kai called out to Oscar as Ruby ran to his side to help him up.

Oscar: "How...is this...so exhausting?"

Ren: "Your body isn't used to this kind of training. Not to metion generating a defensive aura on your own. It takes intense concentration at first, but in time it will become second nature, allowing you to deflect attacks and gradually heal your wounds. After that you can begin focusing on your semblance...whatever that may be" Oscar raised a brow as he stood up, "Semblance?" Kai raised a brow at him also, "You don't know what a semblance is?"

Nora: "Its like your very own superpower! Everybody's got one, its just a matter of finding it and mastering it. Ruby moves super fast, electricity makes me stronger, Ren can mask emotions, Kai has super powerful flames, and Jaune...uh..." Nora trailed off as everyone suddenly turned to glance at the blond boy, who turned away with a sad look on his face, "I uh, can't do any..."

Ruby quickly interrupted, "Jaune's like you Oscar!" She grabbed Oscar by the hand and dragged him over to Jaune, "He hasn't found his semblance yet, but we all know he will. And you will too"

Kai: "That's right. We all just have to train our strengths and help each other get stronger" Oscar gave a small smile, "Cool"

Ren: "A common philosophy is that a warrior's semblance is a part of who they are. Some say your personality and character can define your semblance, while some claim that it's the other way around. Of course there are still many who don't see a connection at all"

Kai: "Hm. To each his own I guess"

Nora: "It's hard to know when you know sometimes. Ren's semblance was unlocked from intense stress"

Ruby: "And mine kicked in during training one day" Oscar faced Nora, "What about you?"

Nora: "Oh, struck by lightning, didn't die, Crazy Thursday"

Oscar: "And you?" he faced Kai.

Kai: "I...wanted to protect someone...and it just happened. Burned my whole village to the ground" Oscar looked startled as he uttered, "Oh.." Kai smiled reassuringly, "Don't worry kid, not everyone goes to such extreme lengths to unlock their semblance"

Jaune: "I just don't understand what's wrong with me. I train, I meditate..." Suddenly there was a shimmer of energy as Ozpin returned.

Ozpin: "Don't worry Mr. Arc. Your journey is far from over. The same might be said for all of you. Unlocking your semblance isn't the end, you can still grow and evolve. Provided you're willing to put in the work, who knows what could happen?"

Kai: "On that note..." he picked up Raze from its resting place against the wall, "...it's about time we begin my training session" Ozpin nodded, "Of course. We can begin immediately" Ozpin and the rest of the group moved to the sides as Kai walked to the middle of the backyard, his blade gripped tightly.

Kai: "Okay...now what?"

Ozpin: "Before we begin, a question. How much of your power do you think you've been able to use so far?"

Kai: "Uh, what?"

Ozpin: "What I mean is, if you were to put a percentage on the amount of your power you've been able to use so far, what would it be? Excluding your...other side, of course"

Kai: "Well how am I supposed to know that?"

Ozpin: "Well your semblance is a part of you. You're connected to it in ways you may not even realize. Reach into the pool of aura within you and the feeling should come naturally"

Nora: "I dunno, sounds kinda complicated"

Kai: "Hmm..." Kai closed his eyes in thought for a few seconds, and when he reopened them, they were golden, "At the fall of Beacon I could use up to 65%. Right now I'm at like, I dunno, 85%?" Ozpin nodded in thought, "Okay then, now show us just how much this '85%' is" Kai smiled, "Thought you'd never ask" Turning around to face away from the house, he gripped his blade tightly with both hands and unleashed a mighty swing. A large and wide arc of bright golden flames shot out from his blade and rushed upwards towards the hills in the distance. There was a large explosion as the flames made contact, and when the smoke cleared, the tip of the hill was gone.

Ruby: "So...awesome!"

Nora: "Show off"

Ozpin: "Impressive as always. From this, I estimate that you'll need at least 90% to stand a chance against a maiden, and 100% to win" Kai frowned, "Seriously? I'm still that far behind?"

Ozpin: "Fret not, Mr. Blaze, I think I've gotten a clear picture of how your semblance works. The strongest you've ever felt has always been when using your other side, correct?"

Kai: "Well, yeah..."

Ozpin: "If you were to put a percentage on that, what would it be?" Kai thought for a moment, "It...feels pretty much like a hundred percent I guess. But I don't want to rely on that to..."

Ozpin: "We're not going to. Here's how I think your ability works. There's a certain amount of power you can draw out, in this case it's 85%, but in moments where you feel strong emotions like anger or sorrow, you can increase that power to a hundred, by drawing out an extra percentage from somewhere else"

Kai: "My dark side"

Ozpin: "Exactly. You subconciously draw out power from your dark side to make up for the 15% you lack. Now, if you can draw out the full 100% on your own..."

Kai: "...I wouldn't need to rely on my dark side anymore!"

Ren: "But that can't be easy to do"

Ozpin: "It's not. Kai will need to supress his instinct to draw on that power as well as break his own aura limitations" Kai took a deep breath and spoke with certainty, "I'm ready. I can do this" Ozpin smiled, "Then put away your sword Mr. Blaze. Till now you've only majorly engaged in combat training. As of this moment your training will be centered around evolving your semblance"
