Chapter 13: Three-way Showdown

~Haven Academy Vault~

Cinder and Raven dashed around the cave at each other, eyes glowing brightly, the two women locked in deadly combat. Raven swung high with her blade and Cinder blocked the strike with her own flame blade, then shifted her body quickly to make a swing of her own. Raven backflipped over the blade and landed on a quickly conjurred ice platform, launching herself at Cinder at blinding speed. Cinder barely managed to keep up, but was able to block a particularly fatal strike from Raven at the last moment. The two women once again exchanged a flurry of blows, which ultimately ended up with both of their blades shattering from the impact. One of the shards found its way into Cinder's left arm, which prompted her to let out a sharp cry.

Raven: "Aura can't protect your arm. It's grimm" And sure enough, Cinder's left arm was anything but human. The black deformed arm let out a small cloud of black mist as Cinder pulled out the shard. Raven scoffed, as she switched out her broken blade for a new one, "You turned yourself into a monster just for power" Cinder held out her other arm and created another flaming blade, "Look who's talking" As the women made to dash at each other again, they both paused. Sensing something, they both looked up, and immediately jumped backwards in opposite directions. In the spot where they had been, a raging mass of bright golden flames smashed into the ground, flames which could only belong to one person.

Cinder: "Kai..." she said his name through gritted teeth, and then her face contorted with rage, "...how are you still alive?!" The flames cleared, and Kai stood in its place, his blade pointed at Cinder, and an outstretched arm towards Raven, holding a fire ball ready to blast at any moment.

Kai: "I'll give you one last chance to surrender, Cinder" Cinder looked at him baffled, and then coughed up laughter, "Surrender? Me?!"

Raven: "I don't think you realise the situation you're in, boy" Kai turned to face Raven for the first time, and his eyes widened at the sight of her glowing eyes, "You're...you're the Spring Maiden?" his eyes darted over to Vernal laying motionless in the corner and he shook his head, "Now do you realise the kind of people you're working with? It's not too late, you can help me take down Cinder and the rest of Salem's disciples" Raven glared at him, "Stay out of this Kai. You're outmatched here."

Kai: "Raven. I'll only ask once. Are you with me, or against me?"

Raven: "GET. OUT. OF MY WAY" her eyes burned with bright crimson colored flames. Kai nodded, "Then so be it" Cinder watched on with an amused smile, "You can barely hold your own against me Kai. Let's see you handle the onslaught of two maidens" With that Cinder charged forward at Kai, and Raven took this as her cue to launch herself forward as well. Kai was still in his original position, blade pointed towards Cinder, and his other arm towards Raven. Cinder held her blade ready to parry and Raven positioned her blade to swipe away the impending fire ball.

As Kai expected.

In one swift movement, he switched his positioning, firing off the fireball at Cinder, while using the force of the recoil to launch himself at Raven with his flaming blade held ready. The fire ball hit Cinder square in the chest, catching her by surprise and knocking her back midair, while Kai now engaged Raven Branwen in combat. He swung Raze furiously at Raven, but the experienced woman was able to block and dodge all of his attacks. Raven arched her back and bent low to narrowly dodge another one of Kai's flaming strikes, then quickly swung up her leg to kick him straight in the jaw. While Kai reeled backwards, Raven speedily spun on her feet and swung her other leg to connect with Kai's chest, sending him tumbling backwards, just as Cinder stabbed her blade through the spot where Kai had just been. She glared at Raven and grunted in anger before dashing at her, swinging wildy but with precision, and Raven moved to block each strike with her own. Just then Kai appeared in a flash of flames, swinging a heavy kick at Cinder, who raised her left arm to block. She realised her mistake too late. She grunted in pain at the burn left behind from the kick, which sent her backwards a few feet. The three combatants now stood in a circle, glaring at each other.
