Cross was plastered
He sat slouching and giggling in his seat as he took another swig of the delicious whisky his friend and loyal brother in arms got him for...well he wasn't sure the occasion. He just knew the drink was making him feel so loose and relaxed. Normally, he was always rigidity and on high alert unless he was in his bed with the love of his life, his mighty dark prince.
Nightmare was also giggling but for a totally different reason.
Cause it was so damn funny to see Cross like this, that's the reason Nightmare was laughing. Cross the king of control and calm? One of the most feared skeletons in the multiverse? Was sitting in his chair giggling to himself for twenty minutes about the word 'breasts' in a book he was reading. Nightmare shook his head as he slowly reached toward Cross to take the book away. Cross watched him do so and merely pouted, causing another fit of laughter, ones that rattled Nightmares bones as his vicious warrior was pouting at him with glassy eyes.
"Don't look at me like that, apparently this book is too amusing for you to handle" Nightmare teased, before placing the book next to him on the nice podium next to the chair he was seated in, which was neighboring Cross on his left.
The chair was a birthday present to him last year from Cross, so that they could read together without ending up in some very heated escapade. However, it didn't escape Nightmares vision when Cross stared at him quite fondly from his cushioned home for the time being, as he had wrapped himself now in his tentacles to exaggerate the pouting.
"Sweetheart are you that upset I've taken that book from you?"
"No"
"Are you sure love?"
"S'yes"
Nightmare groaned, oh dear he was slurring now. Nightmare had only seen Cross intoxicated once before this and that was at a Christmas party.
Blue had spiked the punch and apparently Cross ingested just enough to try to singlehandedly fight Geno with a toothbrush. Why a toothbrush or who toothbrush it was, he wasn't quite sure, but boy was that a sight to see. What made it worse is error was also absolutely hammered and tried to help poor Cross out of his predicament against Geno who was actually sober.
Nightmare was so distant in thought he hadn't realized that his drunken lover was trying to stand up and failed miserably with a loud thud. Nightmares head snapped in the direction of the thud to see Cross lying face down on the floor in hysterics. "N-nighttttt" Cross said giggling into the hardwood floor.
"Yes love?" Night answered, getting out his chair,  helping his beloved off the floor and back onto his feet.
"I would k-k-kill the worrrrrllldd for you" Cross declared fondly as he awkwardly and quite clumsily wrapped his arm around nights waist as the rest of Cross's body leaned on his boyfriend for support.
Night couldn't help but blush at the declaration, not sure why he was suddenly making that known as if he hadn't already almost indeed killed the world for him.
Nightmare didn't remember his death at all for the small time he was dead, it was all a haze from the point he died to the point he was brought back. However it still haunted Cross, at night Cross would cling to nightmare and beg for him to stay in his sleep. Telling him to never leave him again and to never die in his arms again, that he was one of the worst people alive for not protecting him.
It broke Nightmares soul when he said such things about himself, and it also made his soul swell with love and adoration when he said this at the same time, knowing deep in his hollow bones that Cross indeed loved him.
"Come on Mr. gushy, let's get to our bed" as nightmare was about to step forward a flash came across his vision before he could blink the flash away properly he was back in their room.
Ah, he must be tired.
The bed was waiting on them with almost a whisper coming from it, drawing them in. Night was actually more tired than he liked to admit. Night laid Cross on the bed, helping him out of his thick clothes. Cross groaned when Night ran his hand over his chest as he took the top shirt off.
Oh yeah, Night winced. His scars were still very tender from the battles he had in the past that he still refused to talk to Nightmare about.
A discussion best meant for a sober Cross.
After Cross was properly taken care off and tucked into bed, he noticed how absolutely quiet Cross had been. As Night turned to check on him a loud rubble of a snore came from Cross's sleeping form.
Nightmare giggled to himself as he stripped a decent amount of clothing and crawled into the bed with his sleeping king. Finally the extreme exhaustion was finally taking over before cross said very quietly.
"Do you want to know where the scar on my chest came from?"
That woke up Nightmare very quickly, propping himself on his elbow to look down at his barely awake boyfriend.
"Yes?" nightmare said, slightly confused of what was bringing this up all of the sudden.
"I was in a battle way back in my glory days, my father thought I was fit enough to go into a war zone at 17 could you believe it?" The words were slow at coming out but Nightmare was hanging on each word like a lifeline.
Cause sue him, he couldn't help his curiosity.
"I wasn't paying attention, was being way to cocky, and here came a warrior out of no where with a large spear and I didn't jump out the way quick enough, I remember the pain. You'd think being a skeleton something like that wouldn't be so...horrible" Cross shuddered. Nightmares eyes had gone wide at the vision that played into his head, oh please for the love of stars do not let that happen to his preciousness again. Cross let out a shaky breath and continued, "it took four men to get the damn thing out of my ribs, breaking all of them in the process" Cross audibly hissed at the memory.
"Oh my..." Was the only thing Nightmare could get out at that point, his mind reeling from thinking of how much that would have to HURT.
"It still wasn't as painful as the day I lost you"
That tone
That tone was...
Cross began to let tears roll down his cheeks, Nightmare immediately straddled Cross's waist to look at his boyfriend face to face as he wiped the tears from Cross's sharp cheeks.
"Cross. Sweetheart, I'm right here, you didn't loose me" Night was the absolute worst at soothing someone but damn it did he try, especially in these moments.
Despite what people thought, Cross rarely shared his feelings like this, not like this.
"I'm sorry.."
"Nothing to be sorry for"
"I'm terrible"
"Cross your not-"
"I don't deserve you"
Okay that one was new.
New as in he had never heard Cross say that in his entire time being with him.
Didn't deserve him?
"Cross look at me"
Cross didn't look up at him. His eyes focused on the ceiling.
"Cross"
Finally his boyfriend looked at him.
"What in this whole multiverse made you think, you didn't deserve me? If anything I don't deserve you" before Cross could even say anything to that comment Nightmare placed his hand over his mouth.
"You are absolutely the only thing that genuinely matters more than life itself in my eyes, don't ever say that again"
Cross eyes widened, Nightmare moved his hand away now from Cross's mouth to see the complete awed expression Cross was making.
"I love you"
"I love you too"
"Are you tired?"
"Yes"
"Rest"
Before Nightmare could respond cross flipped him onto his side and pressed Nights body snuggly against himself. Nightmare rolled his eyes at his lovers actions as he settled. Finally letting the night take them both into a dreamless restful sleep.
As for the lesson that was learned tonight was
Don't let Cross have any more damn alcohol.
