Evangeline had been standing here for at least 30 mins, just confused. Everything was empty. And she wasn't used to the quiet. She found herself just sitting there. Checking her pockets for her phone to try and call her mother.
But it did not work. So she did what she had been told from her days of wandering with an empty mind when she was young. And she sat there. Thinking maybe she might be able to rest a bit. But she couldn't sleep on cement no matter how hard she tried.
So she decided to find something to eat instead. "Time to explore." She said as she started on her way to Sacramento streets. Another person, Lars was busy celebrating. Because of course, there needed to be some lightness in this living hell.
He was eating a few granola bars, yelling in the street, just letting himself get loose. "WOOOOOOOOOO." Dancing awkwardly like a dad. Evangeline hears this and peaks around a corner, immediately regretting her ideas of venturing away from where she had been. Against her better judgment, she walked towards the man.
"Excuse me, where is this?" She was still quite confused. And rather tired and hungry. She still stood considerably far. He notices this new voice, stops dancing, and turns around.
"Hello?" "Hi." She smiled tiredly. And waved. "I was wondering what's going on."
She fiddled with the strings of her hoodie. "Cause I don't know. Everything has been too quiet for too long." She still was failing badly at making eye contact. "Ah... um... Howdy.
You are in Sacramento." She had already known this but decided to listen further. He gave a small wave. "I see you're in a similar situation as I am. Don't worry though. The silence is the best part." "Well, that would make sense I guess."
She stood there and thought about it for a second or two. "It's just kinda weird though. Everything is so empty. Except for you, I haven't seen anyone else." She could suddenly feel her stomach growl.
"But anyway thanks for the little bit of knowledge you gave me." She looked around. "I need to eat. So. I am gonna go then?" She waited for their response as if asking for their permission to leave. "Oh, don't worry! I have granola bars. You can have one if you want.."
He walked over to the small pile he made and grabbed one, reaching out for the girl to grab it. Suddenly her face lit up. "That's so nice of you!" She quickly walked towards him and gently took the granola bar from his hand. "Thank you."
