Her Pain (SleepyAsh/Kuro x Reader)

=Chapter Nineteen=

"Ow!"

You glared at the maid who was tying the bandages around your torso. For some reason, she was determined to make you feel as much pain as possible. You hadn't even done anything to warrant the harsh treatment.

"Done," She said coldly.

Then she got up and walked off.

"What's her problem?" You mumbled.

You began to slowly pull on and button up a silk shirt that the head maid had kindly given to you. She was much nicer than the one who had bandaged you. She reminded you of a sweet old grandma. Once you finished with the buttons, you grabbed the crutches resting against the table. Hopping off the counter, you slowly made your way out into the entry hall of the Alicein mansion. The large room had been turned into a makeshift hospital ward.

Iron cots had been set out all over the place, on each one was one of Lily's many subclasses. At first, you thought that Misono just had a truckload of siblings, but Hugh had filled you in. Apparently, Lily had a habit of rescuing orphaned children and giving them a home in the mansion, and any who didn't make it were turned into vampires.

Sobs echoed around the high-roofed room. All the subclasses had fallen ill for some unknown reason. The servants were in a state of chaos. They were rushing back and forth between the children, changing forehead towels and administering pain medication. One maid had offered you some to help with your injuries, but you immediately turned her down. The last thing you wanted to do was fall back into your addiction to pain killers.

Although, now you had to deal with sharp pains every time you breathed or moved your leg a certain way.

You hadn't come out of the fight unharmed. Quite the opposite in fact. You had suffered three broken ribs, a small fracture in your shin, and a minor concussion. The ribs and the concussion came from your impact with the wall, and your leg had broken from the force of you hitting the ground after jumping off the roof. You hadn't noticed at the time thanks to the adrenaline, but after the fight was over, everything hurt.

It was now around 10 p.m., and you had been awake since 3 a.m., meaning that you were beyond exhausted. You had spent all day helping set up the cots and distributing the blankets, while also periodically checking up on Misono and Lily who had both been bedridden.

Hugh and Tetsu had been allowed to come in and were extremely helpful. Tetsu seemed to have an endless supply of stamina that you would've killed for.

Your eyelids felt heavy, and they began to shut. Your hands went slack on your crutches and slipped off, causing you to fall forward. Just as you were about to hit the hard wooden floor, a pair of strong hands caught you.

"Whoa there, Sleeping Beauty," Kuro said quietly. "I'm speaking from experience when I say that the floor is not the friendliest of surfaces when you're looking for a place to sleep."

He maneuvered your hands back onto the crutches and kept one hand on your waist to prevent you from falling again.

"You got it?" He asked.

You nodded sleepily.

"Excuse me, dearies," An old cheery voice said from behind.

You both turned to find the head maid standing a few feet behind you, the rude maid standing beside her.

"You two must be tired from all the work you've done," she said sweetly. "If you follow Fuuya here, she'll show you to a bedroom."

The word "bed" was enough to make your eyelids shut once more, and you stumbled, but Kuro caught you before you fell too far.
