(Y/n) moved around the room, a vacuum in hand, sucking up small chips and stray noodles that had fallen out of Kuro's mouth.
"Your such a slob!" she shouted at Kuro who lay in front of the TV, his focus on Mario Kart.
"Thank you," he mumbled.
(Y/n) turns off the vacuum and sat down next to him and grabbed a controller. Kuro paused the game and looked at her curiously.
"Bet I can beat you,"
"We'll see about that," he said, resetting the game and switching to multiplayer.
-Time Skip-
(Y/n) POV
You were ahead of Kuro and crossed the finish line a second before him. "I win!"
"You got lucky," he grumbled.
"Oh really?" you say, giving him a smirk. "After about five rounds, it goes from luck to skill."
He didn't answer, his eyes on the screen where Rosalina rode around in her victory lap. You look out the window and are surprised by how quickly it got dark.
"Cmon Kuro," you say, getting up.
"Why?"
You pick up your bag and a shopping list. "I need to get groceries."
"I don't wanna," he groaned.
"If you come I'll buy you the new limited edition ramen." You say, looking down at the paper in your hands.
Kuro poofed into a cat and hopped onto your shoulder. "Make it three."
"Alright fine," you say as you exit your apartment.
Before your door is completely closed you hear a crash but you can't manage to pinpoint where it came from. Probably some kids playing baseball.
You run down the stairs of your apartment building and onto the sidewalk, Kuro snoring softly on your shoulder.
-Later-
"Here you go," the checkout person said, handing you the bag full of groceries.
"Thanks," you say, walking away.
"Can I have my ramen?" Kuro's cat said.
"Cats can't have ramen."
He poofed into his human form. "Now can I have it?"
You sigh and dug out one of the cups and handed it to him. "How are you gonna eat it? You don't have any water."
"Uhhh..."
"Didn't think that far ahead did you?" you say grinning.
"No," he mumbled, turning his head to the side to hide his pink cheeks.
You laugh. "All stomach, no brain."
Your bright mood didn't last long.
"Well, well, what have we here?"
You stiffen and slowly turn around. It's Koharu, your biggest bully. She's flanked by her minions, Hina and Hana.
"Hey (Y/n), how much are you paying that guy to be with you?" Hana sneers.
"Must be a lot. After all, who'd want to hang out with a nobody?" Hina adds.
Kuro's POV
I look down at (Y/n) but her face was dark and I can't see her eyes.
"Guys, leave me alone," she says weakly.
The girl at the front leaned in. "Why should we? We can do whatever we want. You hear me you little ~~~~."
Her last words are muffled and I'm too far away to hear it, although (Y/n) hears it loud and clear. She drops the grocery bag and turns around, running in the direction we just came from. I go to follow her but a hand grabs my arm.
"Don't bother with her," the leader says. "Come with us and I'll pay you double what she did."
I rip my arm out of her grasp and spit at her feet. She shrieks and stumbles back. "What was that for?!"
I give her a withering look before running after (Y/n).
"Damn, she's fast," I mumble to myself.
I follow her scent back to the apartment, the doors wide open and I rush inside. I hear a quiet rattling sound coming from the bathroom and I hurry towards it. My hand grasps the doorknob but it's locked.
"(Y/n) open the door," I say, trying to keep voice calm.
There's no answer and the rattling gets frantic.
"(Y/n)! Open the door!" I shout. "Now!"
This time I don't wait for an answer, I move backward before launching myself at the door, forcing it open.
I'm shocked by what I see. (Y/n) hands are clasping a small orange bottle, trying to remove the lid.
"It won't open," she cried.
Then I realize what she was doing. I throw myself at her and wrestle the bottle out of her hands. It falls and bursts open, small white pills scatter across the floor. She looks at me, tears falling from her eyes.
"I hate- I hate you, I hate you!" she says in a choked voice.
My body moves of its own accord and all of the sudden my arms are wrapped around her shaking figure, holding her as she cries into my chest. I gently pull her down onto the floor and we sit there for a long time, my arms wrapped around her.
Why was I doing this? In less than 24 hours the contract will be over, I have no reason to be doing this... and yet... why do I feel comfortable here?
My mind is abuzz with questions that I can't answer, so I don't. I just sit there with (Y/n) in my lap, her sobs muffled by my coat. Eventually, she cries herself to sleep in my arms. I pick up the discarded bottle and read the label, Antidepressant: Take one pill by mouth each day.
"Overdose," I murmur to myself. "She wanted to overdose."
I look at the sleeping girl in my arms, she looked peaceful. I picked her up and carried her to her room, placing her gently on her bed. I got up and closed the door quietly so as not to disturb her. I went back to the bathroom and cleaned up all the spilled pills, dropping them back into the bottle one by one before placing it on a high shelf that was well out of her reach, I didn't want this to happen again.
That's Chapter Two done. Writing this was hard because I have never had to deal with depression or suicide in my life. It's a serious thing, whether you have it or if someone you know has it. You were put on this earth for a reason, so never, ever think that you are useless, you are special so don't listen to the hate that others give you.
