Hello everyone! How many of you thought I wouldn't be able to upload this summer? Well, guess what? You're sorely mistaken! This chapter is going to be a holiday special for the Fourth of July! Because this is a holiday special, this chapter will not affect the plot of the rest of the story. Enjoy!

Kuro's POV

The sun was only beginning to set when the first kids started to set off fireworks in the street. Cracks and bangs came from outside, accompanied by shouting and laughter.

I lay on my stomach with a pillow over my head, trying- and failing- to block out the noise.

"Kuro, you ready?"

I raised my head slowly and looked up, my eyes widening. (Y/n) was dressed in a (f/c) yukata, her hair in a (f/h/s). She had pale pink lipstick on and a flower tucked behind her ear.

"We're supposed to meet Misono and Lily at the park in 5 minutes," she said, staring down at me.

"I'm ready," I say, standing up. "Where'd you get the yukata?"

She looks down at it. "It's one of my mom's old ones." she looks up again. "Do I look bad in it?"

I realize I'd been staring at her a little too long and quickly look away. "No, no, you look great," I mumble. "Come on, let's go."

We leave the apartment building and walk down the street toward the park. Little kids run past us with sparklers in their hands, their parents run after them, trying to keep them from getting hurt.

Misono and Lily were waiting for us under a tree on a hill that overlooked the rest of the park. Misono had his arms crossed and an annoyed look on his face. "You're late."

(Y/n) laughed. "By what? Three minutes?"

By now the sun had set and the moon had taken its spot, surrounded by colorful displays of sparks. The night sky was lit up by spinning Catherine wheels, fountain fireworks, and even a few Roman Candles.

(Y/n)'s laughter was drowned out in all the noise, her face was lit up every time a firework went off. Somewhere in the city, a clock chimed 9 times, and not a moment later, Misono fell face first onto the grass.

"Guess it's time to go home," Lily said, picking him up and slinging him over his shoulder.

"Night, Lily!" (Y/n) called.

Lily waved goodbye and walked off, ignoring the strange looks from people he passed.

"Light it up! Light it up! Light it up! Light it up!"

We looked down and see a group of high school kids pouring gunpowder packets into a cluster of bottle rockets. One strikes a match and holds it against the strings.

"(Y/n), duck!" I say, grabbing her and pulling her against me, her head resting against my chest with my arm covering her face.

A second later, the rockets shoot up into the sky and explode a hundred feet up in the air. The explosions were twice as large as normal. A shower of sparks rained down on the park like a million shooting stars, each one extinguishing itself in the grass, each one a tiny star winking out of existence.

She pulls my arm down so that she can see the sky. She gasps as her vision is filled with bright colors. Her laughter drifts up into my ears, filling my head.

"Hey," I say, pushing her away slightly.

"What's-"

I silence her by kissing her softly. Her face starts turning pink and it looks adorable.
