"Hang on, Misono, we're coming."
As you neared the spiraling vortex of jin, you felt an immediate drop in the temperature around you. Shivering, you clung to Kuro even tighter as the two of you (along with the bat who hitchhiked a ride atop your head) began to descend.
"Uh-oh," Kuro said suddenly in a monotone voice.
"'Uh-oh'?" You repeated, confused.
And then, for the second time that night, you began falling.
"Kuro! This isn't funny!" You scream, arms flailing wildly.
"It's not my fault," He whined. "I'm running on low battery power over here. Airplanes require fuel in order to fly, and your airplane is craving beef flavored ramen noodles."
"WE HAVE MORE PRESSING CONCERNS RIGHT NOW BESIDES THE BOTTOMLESS PIT THAT YOU CALL A STOMACH!" You shout. "IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY NOTICED, WE'RE BOTH ABOUT TO DIE!"
"Eh, I'll probably survive, you on the other hand, will most likely turn into a human pancake. Hm, when was the last time I had pancakes....?"
"Goddammit, Kuro, this is serious!"
"Quit shouting and use your brain, young lady!" A squeaky voice said from above.
Hugh latched on to your temples with the tips of his wings, his tiny bat body hovering between your eyes. "Your lead is a broom, you can use it to fly! I've seen you do it before!"
"Oh, right, I forgot about- wait! You were stalking me?!"
"That's besides the point. Now, if you don't want to become part of your friends' roof, I suggest that you use it," Hugh responded in a voice that was way to calm for the current situation.
"But I can't use it very we-" You protest.
"For god's sake just use it!" The bat shrieked, kicking you in the nose with his tiny feet.
"Alright, fine!"
The black broom materialized and your fingers latched on tightly, while your other hand grabbed Kuro's hood. However, there was one tiny problem. You were still falling.
"Hugh! How do I make this thing fly?!" You yelled.
"Why are you asking me?!" He said. "It's your lead, not mine!"
"Yeah, but you've been stalking me, so you must know something!"
"(Y/n), the roof is getting closer," Kuro interjected.
"Why are you worried?! You're not the one who's going to die!"
"Yeah, but it'll still hurt," He mumbled.
You squeezed your eyes shut and tried to visualize yourself flying on the broom. Come on, work please! You thought. Opening one eye, you saw to your dismay, and horror, that the roof was closer than it was before.
Please for the love of all that is holy, WORK!! You thought. I refuse to end my life holding on to a broom and a ramen loving vampire!!
Then, everything got quiet. The wind assaulting your ears was gone, and your body no longer felt the sensation of falling. Peeking out from behind your closed eyelids, you saw that the roof was no longer rushing up to meet you. Instead, you had come to a standstill about four feet off the roof.
"I did it," You mumbled before bursting into laughter. "I actually did-"
Thud.
"Or not."
In your excitement, you had broken your concentration, causing you to drop the final four feet on to the top of Misono's mansion.
"Ow," You mutter, rubbing your back as you sit up.
"(Y/n)," Kuro said, not moving from the position that he fell in. "I think I broke something. You're gonna have to go on without me. Just promise that you'll remember my valiant sacrifice in the form of overpriced, limited edition ramen noodles, kay?"
"Oh, quit being such a drama queen," You say, hauling him to his feet. "You're fine."
"Well, I think you two can handle things from here on out," Hugh piped, detaching himself from your head. "I'll wait for you two outside with Testu. Have fun!"
And with that, he flew off to go find his coffin-carrying Eve.
"'Have fun'? This isn't some amusement park!" You shout at the bat.
"Hey, (Y/n), I really don't want to deal with this," Kuro said from behind you.
"You never want to deal with-"
"Lily! What's wrong with you?!"
Wait, that sounds like-
"Misono!" You shout, spotting the purple-haired boy near a fountain in the middle of the courtyard.
A few feet away from him knelt Lily, at least, you thought it was Lily. His sclera were pitch black, and odd markings extended down from his eyes, almost like demonic tears. The ground around him was the same inky black as his eyes, and a strange liquid of the same color dripped from his mouth. He was reaching out towards Misono, as if beckoning him to come forward.
Misono, having heard you shout his name, turned in your direction. "Something's wrong with-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Lily sprang forward, sinking his sharp fangs into your friends' neck.
"MISONO!" You scream.
At that moment, you didn't think. All you did was run towards the edge of the roof and jump. Your momentum was enough to propel all the way to where Lily and Misono were standing. You collided with Lily, causing him to detach himself from Misono's throat, but you were too late. Black butterflies surrounded Misono, and together pushed him toward his crazed SerVamp. With a flick of his hand, Lily sent you flying.
"(Y/n), help me!" Misono shouted, a look of terror on his face.
But you could do nothing but watch helplessly as the blond vampire absorbed his Eve into his body. And then Misono was gone. The only thing left as proof of his existence was a single shoe, left behind amid all the chaos.
I'M ALIVE!! And with my return from the Wattpad grave, I bring you Chapter Seventeen!! How many months has it been? One, two... seven.... The point is, it's been a while!! And for that, I'm very sorry. I've had a lot on my plate for the past seven months, like moving, starting online school, starting hybrid learning, starting full time school, going back to strictly online school, then once again back to hybrid learning, and then I had finals to top it all off. All in all, pretty chaotic. Also, the main reason that I took so long to publish this is that I have ADHD and I find it extremely hard to sit down and work on something. Be it with school, stories, or even correspondence with my friends back home, I just have a really hard time focusing on a project. I always try to find something else to do. Anyways, I really hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, I rushed to get it done before the clock strikes midnight and 2020 ends. It's so strange, in 2019, I published fourteen chapters in one year (seventeen counting authors notes), but this year I only published three chapters (four if you count the authors note). Alright, I've made up my mind!! My 2021 New Years Resolution is to publish more than three chapters before 2021 ends!! Wish me luck!!
