...cause i had a view of you

"nah...i think she'd prefer you alone," sasha gave a wink before leaving out the door, with a much more smug demeanor than she had when she first came in.

historia repositioned the bag on her shoulder, wondering what the hell that meant. of course it would be sasha, of all people, to leave her with that. she had been thinking of ymir ever since the night they spent on the bench. but they were all unquestionable thoughts, now ymir's name offered her worry, a thousand questions without answers.

"so your nervousness is just gay panic?" she shared another smile.

"heyyy, already making fun of me," ymir nudged her shoulder against historia's.

"excited you get to talk to a girl?" hisu continued the banter. ymir couldn't stop herself from staring into her eyes as they lit up. she seemed at peace. she's never gotten to see this side of her. it was moving.

"oh shut up, i'm excited to be talking to you in general."

"why didn't you just befriend me like you did with sasha?"

"...because it's not the same," she scratched the back of her neck for the millionth time that evening. "i like you in a different way."

in what way? what did that mean?

"sasha is a lot more open. she's basically compatible with anyone. i wasn't scared if she wouldn't like me all that much, you know?"

"oh...so you were scared we wouldn't work out?"

"yeah," she chuckled. "i guess you could put it that way."

it didn't all come together in that moment, but historia felt herself inching towards an answer. it never crossed her mind that ymir had a crush on her until this encounter with sasha. and she admits she never viewed ymir in a 100% platonic way. in fact, she was always anxious around her in a different way than she was with others. perhaps this was the reason.

historia felt a stroke to her chest, she was getting into something that was beyond her capability. if this didn't end well, what would she do? but she thought the same thing when she was talking to sasha.

she wanted the conversation to end in fear something awkward would happen, but instead...she felt relieved. not because it was over, but because she's been waiting to see ymir again. she didn't realize it at first, but it rang true.

it was in the proximity she stood next to the other that only she would receive. it was in the eye contact she would always avoid. it was in the approach she wouldn't risk for anyone else.

she knew now.

i have a fucking crush on ymir?

it was only a matter of time before she became too self-aware. she didn't want to make it awkward. what if ymir didn't actually like her and this was all in her head? what if she just wants it to be true?

but if that were right, why did sasha act like that? and why did ymir act the way she did around her?

new thoughts lapped around her brain as she got the rest of what she needed from the store and headed home. passing the bench and coming to the conclusion...
