Tommy
"I got the call. The new compound is ready." Blaze sank into the chair across from me.
I waited for Keira to fall asleep before slipping out of bed and back into my office. It pained me to leave her warmth, but I had too much to do to ensure her safety. After the amount of wine she drank, I was confident she would be out for a while, so my guilt was eased.
"And the changes I requested for the bedroom?" I asked, leaning back in my faded leather chair.
"Done. The expansions were made to accommodate you both, the extra security measures implemented and all your things have been moved in."
"Good." I nodded, lost in thought. The new compound had been under construction for over a year, but the original plans did not have a woman in mind. No one could have predicted Keira's crash landing into my life, least of all me.
Blaze cocked his head at me, consumed by his own thoughts. "You're doing a lot for this girl." He observed.
"She is everything." I met his gaze with a steel intensity and shrugged, as if it wasn't obvious.
"She is dangerous." He snapped. "Her presence puts us all at risk, the entire Revenant organization is in jeopardy as long as she is around."
I clenched my jaw so hard, it hurt. Biting back my savage words took every ounce of self control I possessed. I shoved my chair back and slammed my palms down on the desk, towering over my right hand man.
"The Revenants have been hunted for decades, with or without her, we are always going to be at risk, we're the fucking mafia." I seethed, pinning him down my burning glare.
"She's got you wrapped around her little finger!" He exclaimed, jumping up to match my height. "Ever since Keira showed up you've been distracted, and the org is suffering because of it. One mistake, and we all go down." He slammed his own palms onto the desk. It was a challenge. And a mistake.
"You better watch your fucking mouth, Blaze." I bit out through a clenched jaw. Red hot fury began coursing through my veins. "Keira isn't going anywhere. I will dedicate the rest of my miserable existence to protecting her, get the fuck over it."
"At what cost, T?" His tone softened a fraction. "If she goes down, she'll take you right down with her. You, and everything you've ever worked for."
"I wouldn't want it any other way." I sneered. "I am nothing without this girl, I was going down anyway and we all know it."
We glared at each other, huffing over the desk. I refused to back down, he was out of line.
"I know," He shook his head and dropped back into his chair with a defeated exhale. "I know."
I took a few deep breaths to calm my fury and followed his lead, falling back into my own chair.
"I went about this wrong. I mean no disrespect, man." I met his sincere gaze and nodded, still too angry to speak. "When we were sixteen we swore an oath to each other, I take that oath very seriously, and I always have. I swore I would always have your back, and that's all I'm trying to do here. I'm just looking out for you, T."
"I will never let her go, I can't. I can barely breathe without her, and believe me, I know how fucked up that is. She could leave me for a better man and I would still protect her with my life."
"Jesus, man. You're in way too deep." He chuckled and I couldn't help but smile. "Keira changed you, maybe for the better and the worst. We all see it. You were already a crazy motherfucker and she's only amplified that, but I also see all the good she's bringing out in you. You just smiled for fuck sake!"
