As I stare at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, I can't help but notice the new spark in my green eyes. It's been a while since I've seen it. I have the spark of love towards my son and family, but the one of excitement over the possibility of finding intimate love again has been gone for a while. I honestly thought it would never return. But as I finish painting my lips with my red lipstick, I can't help the excited butterflies in my stomach.
I walk into my room admiring my outfit for tonight in my body length mirror. Light wash distressed skinny jeans, tight black v neck choker t-shirt, black pleather jacket and my combat boots. Chris had text me over the week to dress comfortably and warmly since we would be outside, but I wanted to look a bit sexy as well.
I pull my wavy brunette hair up into a ponytail and take a deep breath. I grab my black pleather mini-backpack and move out to my kitchen to wait.
I hear a knock on my door and look at my watch and see he's right on time. I bite my lip to suppress the smile threatening to envelope my face. I walk over to the front door and open it. When I do I'm met with those bright blue eyes and gorgeous smile that seem to make me weak at the knees.
Chris looks handsome in a red long sleeve henley with grey slacks and tan work boots. I look him up and down until I reach his face where I see him doing the same to me. I blush as I notice the dark look in his eyes.
"Hi." Chris says in a deep voice that goes straight to my core.
"Hey." I exhale with a small smile.
"You look amazing doll!" He says while rubbing the back of his neck.
"Thank you, Chris. You don't look half bad yourself." I say with a sly smirk.
He exhales a laugh. "Are you ready to head out?"
I nod and he extends his hand out to me. I grab it and he intertwines our fingers together, which brings a blush and smile to my face. Chris walks us to his car and opens the passenger door for me and helped me in. He shut my door and walked to the driver's side. He got in and smiled at me as he started his car.
"Where are we going?" I ask as he pulls out of my driveway.
"It's a surprise that I hope you will like." He says with a bright smile as he side glances at me.
We made small talk on the close to 40 minute drive. It was nice to no longer feel anxious and nervous. The conversation flowed so naturally and it was nice to get to know more about him.
"So, your dad and your grandfather were both firemen too?" I ask amazed.
He let out a little chuckle. "Yeah, they were. We jokingly call it the family business."
I chuckle at his answer. "Well, both my grandfather and father are doctors as well. The only difference is that my dad decided to go the oncology route. So I understand. And you said you have 2 older sisters, and then you and Scott are the youngest?"
"Yeah, there has never been a dull moment in our house." He chuckles.
I exhale a laugh and slightly shake my head. "I wouldn't know about that. I'm an only child, and so are both my parents, so I didn't grow up with lots of cousins or siblings. I guess that's why I've always been so close to my parents and grandparents. Also, probably the reason I want to have a big family whenever that happens for me."
He looks over at me a shy smile. "So, you want a big family?"
I widen my eyes at the realization of what I said. "Yeah, I do. Sorry, I know that's probably not first date conversation." I start to nervously ramble.
