The Station

I'm not sure why I'm so nervous. I didn't even get as nervous as I currently feel on Thanksgiving! I grip the steering wheel on my car harder seeing my knuckles turn white. I bite my bottom lip chastising myself for feeling this way.

His family loves me, why would it be different with his friends? I think to myself as I huff.

I look in the rearview mirror to find Eli's bright smile beaming at me. He's had it since we woke up this morning.

Eli and me are on our way to Chris' fire station. Between our works and little league, we have barely been able to spend too much time together. So when he asked if we'd like to come to the station, I jumped at the chance.

After agreeing, I realized what it truly meant. I was going to meet his second family. Friends tend to be intensely overprotective and are not afraid to let their feelings known about someone, even more so than our families. They don't need to sugar coat things, and will let their true feelings be known. My friends are definitely like that, I'm just hoping Chris' aren't as intense.

I keep reminding myself to breath and calm down. I know at least John, Ellie's husband, already likes me, so I'll have him on my side.

We pull up to the station, and before I even turn the car off, Eli has unbuckled and bolted out the door. I sigh and chuckle at his excitement. For him it's a dream come true to get to hang out at the station.

"Eli, bud, I need some help with the food." I brought tacos for everyone for lunch.

Eli runs back to me and grabs one of the less heavy bags. We start walking over to the door Chris told us to come in through.

As we walk in, we are met by a young blonde haired, blue eyed man in the usual fireman shirt and pants. He looked confused to see us, but still sported a welcoming smile.

"Can I help you ma'am?"

"Uh, yeah, we're here to see-" I was interrupted by a booming voice.

"Thompson! Don't you know who that is?!" I see John walking towards us with a mischievous look.

Thompson had a confused and terrified look on his face. "Um, no Lieutenant Sullivan..."

"That's the Captain's girlfriend and her son! Let them through!" I looked at John with an unimpressed look.

"John leave the poor guy alone! Hi, I'm Frankie and this is Eli. What's your name?"

He shyly smiled at me with blushing cheeks. "I'm Brett ma'am."

I giggled slightly. "Please call me Frankie."

He nodded before he noticed the bags Eli and me were carrying. "Oh, I'm so sorry, do you need help with those ma... Frankie?"

I smiled with a nod. "Yes I do, Brett, thank you!"

I walked over to John, after Brett took what I was carrying, and gave him a hug. "You about gave that boy a heart attack John! You're terrible!"

He loudly laughed. "I was just messing with him, he's new so I like to keep him on his toes. Plus you're a doctor, you could've helped him." I shove his shoulder while chuckling slightly.

"Frankie!" Chris calls out to as he makes his way over to me.

He's got a big smile as he's walking next to another fireman. The other man is a few inches shorter than Chris just as buff with dark skin, black hair and hazel eyes. The other fireman starts chuckling at Chris' enthusiasm, flashing a million dollar smile.

Chris pulls me to him and kisses me hard. I melt into his embrace as I kiss him back. I let out a little moan as out tongues meet. Then I'm reminded as to where we are when I hear hollering around us.
