Moving In

It's the end of June, and Chris is officially cleared to go back to work, and get his cast removed. He's been slowly moving his things into my house, our house now I guess. It's a strange concept to consider. It may seem like we're moving too quickly only having been together less than a year, but sometimes when you know you know.

Chris' house already sold, and we are in the last of the mad scramble to get either donate, move, sell or get rid of the last few things he has.

He's got most of the fire department helping us move the big things out, and loading them into the moving truck he rented. It was entertaining watching them all try to give orders on how to move things. They kept budding heads and acting like college frat brothers shouting and messing around.

When Charlie arrived from her shift, she saw the boys rough housing. She shook her head and came to sit with me, handing me a beer.

"Have they been acting like this the entire time?"

I nod and laugh while uttering a small thanks. "Yup, they have productive moments, and then moments like these. I don't know how you put up with them on a regular basis!"

"Well, it gets tough, but they definitely are entertaining. How are you doing?"

I sigh with a small smile. "Fucking exhausted, ready for him to be fully moved in, so I can get a break!"

She laughs trying not to spit out her beer. "You must be! Hey, why don't I monitor these guys and try to kick them into high gear, while you go take a break?"

"You sure? I don't want to leave you with these children."

Charlie looks at me snickering. "I deal with these boys a lot, so I know how to get them to get back to work. You deserve a break for dealing with them and your own kid."

"Maybe, I should marry you Charlie!" She winks at me with smirk. "Alright, well, I do need to go to the grocery store, so this is a giant help. Thanks Charlie!"

"Anytime! Now, watch this."

She stands up and heads over to where the guys are arguing over the best way to lift a couch into the moving truck. "GENTLEMEN!! SHUT UP AND JUST MOVE THE DAMN COUCH!! YOU'VE BEEN DRIVING FRANKIE CRAZY!!"

I try to hold back my laughter as I hear a chorus of "sorry Frankie" and "yes ma'am". I go over to Chris and kiss him telling him and the boys that Charlie was in charge while I grocery shopped. Charlie shot me another wink as I left laughing.

Going grocery shopping used to seem like such a tedious task before I became a mom. Now, it's my quiet time to just pick up things to eat, and not really overthink anything. It's essentially my me time, so now I enjoy it.

Walking slowly down aisles grabbing things from the list I had written out is a nice break from all my other responsibilities, even though this is a sort of responsibility as well.

I sigh as I enjoy the calm in the grocery store, not a lot of people going this late on a Saturday. When my calm is broken by my phone ringing.

I look down at it, and smile as I see a selfie of Eli, me and my best friend Jules with her name on the screen.

"Hey Jules!"

Hey Franks! How have you been??

It had honestly been too long since we've been able to see each other or even talk. I've been busy with the office, Eli and Chris, while she's been busy taking care of her sick mom, and working as a pediatric surgeon at the Boston Children's hospital.
