It was now the end of July. Chris and I had been stronger than ever after our recent fight, and making up. We spent as much of this summer as possible taking Eli to parks, pools, and even a trip to the beach.
But now, we're getting close to Eli's birthday party, and my anxiety is through the roof. We've invited some of Eli's friends from school over to my parents to have a pool party. We also invited all of Chris' station friends.
I've been a crazy mess of party planning. I'm terrible at delegating, and have been stretching myself thin. Of course Eli wants a fireman themed birthday party, so I ordered a fire truck shaped cake.
I'm currently at home on the phone with the grocery store to make sure they've put enough ingredients in a sandwich tray to cover the amount of people coming. We're also having burgers and wings. My dad already told me he would deal with the burgers so I didn't have to worry about those. The wings have been ordered as well, and it's on my pick-up list.
Chris comes into the kitchen as I pace back and forth while on the phone. "There's a good variety of ham, turkey, salami, and cheeses right? And does it come with lettuce, tomato, pickles? And will the condiments be included? Okay, great thank you! I'll be by to pick it up tomorrow."
I exhale as I hang up. Chris puts his arms around me from behind me resting his head on my shoulder. He gives my kiss a cheek as I melt into his embrace. My body is coiled full of anxiety.
"You need to take a break Frankie, you're going to run yourself ragged." He starts to sway us a little.
He spins me so that I'm facing him, and we start slow dancing in the kitchen as he hums. I can't help the soft giggle that leaves my lips. Chris spins me before bringing me back into his arms.
I laugh, throwing my head back. "Chris... I really need to get back to party planning."
He leans down and kisses me softly yet passionately making me moan softly. "You need a break like I said."
I sigh as Eli walks into the kitchen. "What are you guys doing?"
"We were just dancing, bud. I'm trying to get your mom to take a break." Eli giggles at the look on my face.
"When it comes to party planning, mom never takes a break!" Eli and Chris share a laugh while I shake my head at them.
"I just want it to be a good birthday party for you! And we have lots of people coming!"
Eli walks over to me and grabs my hand. "I know it's going to be a great birthday mom! You should go relax for a little while."
I look between the two of them suspiciously. "What are you two up to? Did you two coordinate this?"
Chris smirks mischievously. "Maybe... but we both agree you need a break. So give me your to do list, and I will deal with what's left on it, while you go up to our bathroom and relax."
I sigh knowing they weren't going to let this go. "I have no say in this, do I?"
"Nope!" Eli laughs while fist bumping Chris.
"I don't like you two teaming up against me."
Chris lets out a chuckle while grabbing Eli by the shoulders. "You love us! Now, go up, and we'll take care of everything.
Chris comes over to me and gives me a soft kiss before turning me around and giving me a little push to head to our room.
Once I get to our room I hear soft music coming out of the bathroom. I walk in there to find a warm bath has already been ran. It smells like lavender and jasmine. I can feel myself relaxing already. I notice a glass of red wine next to the bath, as well as some chocolate covered strawberries. I exhale a laugh wondering when they could've gotten all of this ready.
