My eyes snap open, and Robin moans in pain next to me. Is he okay? We'll have to move on soon. Hiding in a bush isn't very smart, and not very practical either. Also, if either of us do win, I don't want it to be known that District 9 victors hide in bushes.
I shake Robin gently until he wakes up. He knows that we have to go just by looking into my eyes, even though he's injured.
Both of us grab our packs and start walking through the early morning sun, along the stream. Eventually we find a fallen tree, near the desert line, and set up a small camp, not as complicated as our previous one.
"I'm going hunting," I tell Robin, "see you in about an hour,"
He nods, and starts building another shelter, hobbling around the trees. It breaks my heart, because the chances are, he'll die.
An hour later, and I come running back to our little camp at the edge of the desert, where the trees start fading away and the sand starts. I have been hunting, mainly desert rabbits, there doesn't seem to be a lack of them here, but not much else either.
"Robin!" I call, expecting him to answer. But when he doesn't, I begin to get worried. "Robin?"
Nothing.
Then I hear him scream. "Iris! Help!"
"Robin! I'm coming!"
I burst into our camp just as the boy from 7, Thenet, brings down an axe on his stomach.
Anger, sadness and regret course through me all at once and instead of throwing a knife at him I leap right onto Thenet, disarming him. To my surprise, he doesn't even struggle. I guess he knows that this is the end for him. Robin whimpers in pain next to me, and I feel more strength than ever before.
"You attacked my brother, and now he is going to die. But you will first. Any last words, seven?"
"Yes. Mum, Dad, I love you. I didn't want to die but I knew it was going to happen. Please, make sure Janet grows up to be someone better than me. I love you all..."
Then I reach for the axe and smash it down onto his neck.
His cannon sounds immediately, sending sorrow through my body because I know the next cannon will be Robin's.
"Robin,"
"Iris..."
"Robin it wasn't meant to end like this, you were supposed to win, it's my fault I'm so sorry, I..."
"No. It's my fault. I went down to the stream to get some water, and... he was there. He has a camp in the rocks. You'll find it. Please."
"I will. I love you so much,"
"Win. For Clem."
"Yes."
"I love you and Clem and mum. Goodbye Iris."
"Stay with me, stay with me please..."
"I love you,"
"I love you too,"
"Goodbye."
And he's gone.
His cannon booms and I close my eyes in misery.
This is the big event that I was waiting for. Uploads will be a lot more frequent from now on, maybe 2 a day if ur lucky, because I have 8 chapters written in reserve.
@Red_Panda_Writer11 @cloudz_toastiez and I acted this scene out earlier, with me being Iris, Red_Panda_Writer11 being Robin and cloudz_toastiez_ being Thenet. Except we didn't have an axe so we used a pitchfork instead. I don't really have any more random facts so I guess I'm stuck here for now.-Katherine
