Kamalyn looks at me, her face so full of anger and rage that I think it could burst.
With a small, sarcastic smile, I turn away and walk towards where Robin is waiting, at the fire starting station."Um... Iris?" He asks, face full of questions.
"What?" I sit down next to him.
"Did you... did you win?"
"Yes, I won."
He continues piling dry grass and some sticks into a little heap, so I lean across and help him. When we finish, I reach for a couple of pieces of flint for him to light it with. While he struggles to get a spark, I look around the training centre to see what everyone else is doing.
Of course, the careers are still showing off by the dummies. The boy from 3 and the girl from 8 are at the edible plants station, the girl from 5 is attempting the climbing challenge, the boy from 10 is camouflaging himself and the girl from 7 is just sitting there and watching us.
We lock eyes for a moment, then she gets up and sits down next to me. At the same moment, Robin lights the fire and the whole pile goes up in flames.
"Well done Robin!"
"Thanks!" He says.
All three of us just sit there for a few minutes, until the girl from 7 starts talking.
"What you did earlier, with the knives, it was cool."
"Uh... thanks,"
"So I was going to ask if you wanted to be allies, but you've got Robin, so..."
"Yeah. Sorry,"
"No, it's fine."
"How about we make a deal. If I meet you in the arena, I don't kill you, and you don't kill me?"
"Sounds good," she says, and starts walking away.
"Wait!" I call after her.
She turns and looks me dead in the eye. "What?"
"I can teach you how to use a knife, if you like,"
Her face lights up. "Yes please!"
We walk over to the dummies together and pick up a dagger each. The next half an hour is spent with us shoving knives into dummies, which is quite fun. Even Robin comes and joins in for a bit, but after that he just sits hand watches.
"You must have been training before the arena. There's no way that you could have been this good from scratch. "
"Yeah, I was training before the arena, with my best friend. "
"Was she the one you volunteered for?"
"Yes. "
"That musta taken a lot of guts,"
"Yeah. Yeah it did."
Not quite sure what this is- I wrote it on the bus this morning, but didn't publish it at skl because I forgot to turn my data on on my phone so didn't load on my laptop... Y'know it doesn't matter. I just hope you enjoyed, pls vote if you did. There will be one or two chapters tomorrow, not sure, but thanks for reading!
