Every night when I go to sleep

The sky has turned to pitch black and Robin and I are walking silently across the desert, looking for a decent place to set up camp, completely fine until I hear her. I recognise the voice from training. It's the girl from District 2, a member of the career pack. So where there's her, there's the others. Since it's dark we can go undetected, but this could be a good chance for a kill so I don't want to miss it.
"Iris? Are they the careers?" Robin asks me.
"Yes. I'm going to try and take one out, so hide somewhere nearby and be ready to run."
As I guessed, Beatrix (the girl from 2), is standing guard while the other careers sleep, muttering to herself and twiddling a machete in her hands. But it doesn't look like she has a long-ranged weapon, which works to my advantage.
I poise myself, knife in hand, ready to throw. Now just to decide on a target. Her head or her heart? Her death will be pretty instantaneous either way, so it doesn't really matter.
I decide on her heart and get ready to run. The careers will wake up when they hear the cannon so I have to be fast. I throw the knife, watching the little silver flash embed itself right in its target.
I have about 15 seconds until she dies and the cannon wakes up everyone in the arena.
I run towards where I saw Robin hide, and as soon as he sees me he starts running as well. I start mentally counting down, waiting until the careers wake up and start the hunt for her killer.
10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... BOOM.
The sound erupts into the quiet night air. She died before I expected, but at least Robin and I were far enough away when her cannon sounded.
I hear shouting in the night behind us, Rift and Kamalyn's voices by the sound of it.
"It's Beatrix! She's dead!" That was Rift.
"Throwing knife in the heart... that girl from nine. She has to be nearby." Kamalyn this time.
Then the boy from 2, the dead girl's district partner.
"Well we need to find her. She will pay for this..."
"We'll search for her immediately. I'd like some of her blood on my hands."
"Benedict? Can you stay here on guard? Just make sure you have a spear so you don't die like Beatrix did."
Benedict? Who's Benedict? Then I remember. The boy from Kamalyn's district.
I hear sounds of careers beginning to search the desert, and know that I have to move if I want to stay alive.
After another minute of running, Robin and I arrive at a large cluster of rocks. With no time to lose, we dive under one of the larger ones, into a kind of cave. All I can hope is that we aren't found.
I can hear more shouting from the careers, from the boy from 2 especially.
"I found someone!" I hear him shout.
"Who?"
Whoever it is I hope that their death is short.
"Boy from 10,"
"Your kill then,"
I hear a scream, and another, and another. I hope that if I die it's not in the hands of this madman.
The screams keep going, echoing in my head, until all of a sudden they stop.

A cannon booms.

And deep inside I know that this death was partially my fault.

Next to me, Robin is sniffling and yawning as quietly as he can. I guess he wants to go to sleep, and to be honest so do I. The careers have given up the hunt, claiming it to be too dark, and that they'll find me in the morning. Hah. No they won't, unless they want a chase across the desert before the sun even comes up.

I pull the blanket out of my bag and wrap Robin in it, as best as I can while staying hidden under the rocks. Even though it's boiling during daylight hours, the temperature of the night air is already dropping low, too low for my liking.

Robin's pretty warm, just like I am, but that won't last. I huddle up with him, and he whispers in my ear, "I'm hungry,"

So am I. There's a loaf of bread in his backpack, so I tear off a couple of chunks. One for him, and one for me. Soon after, he's asleep. No matter how tired I am, that's something I just can't commit to.

Because I know that every night when I go to sleep, I might never wake up.

Odd chapter name, you may be thinking? I'll give you a few more chapters to catch on. (Also, if you have caught on pls don't comment about it)  And now it's time for a randomly stupid fact! 1 million seconds is 11 days, 13 hours 46 minutes and 40 seconds.
Thanks for reading, pls vote.
