The next morning

7:30 PM

Yara

Breakfast with Alisha was amazing. Did I mention that this was my first sleepover ever?

"And then he said-" Alisha burst into laughter before she could finish her sentence. I giggled with her, "He said- he-" we both couldn't keep it in anymore. Every time we looked at each other we kept bursting out in laughter.

"Hey girls, had a good sleep?" Alisha's father came in. We stared at each other and laughed again hysterically. Her dad smiled and said "that's enough information for me," and went to make a coffee.

"Oh by the way," I remembered, "I need you to look at something for me." Alisha raised her eyebrows in question. "Wait," I tell her, and run up to her room. Out of my backpack I carefully took my succulent plant with the dry leaves that I took with me when I left my house. I was so bad at taking care of it. It looked so sad.

I went back to the kitchen, and showed her the sad little dry plant with the brown leaves, and Alisha looked at me with big sad eyes. "Yara!" she exclaimed indignantly. "I know, I'm sorry okay? I put it somewhere safe, and then forgot about it... For a few days... Or more-" Alisha looked judgmentally at me. "It was the easiest plant ever, Yara! How did you mess this up?" "I'm sorry-" I started, but Alisha took the sad plant out of my hands, and to her plant room.

I loved that room! From the moment you walked in, you were surrounded by life and sunshine, all her plants were thriving with love

I loved that room! From the moment you walked in, you were surrounded by life and sunshine, all her plants were thriving with love. I don't know how she did it. She had small trees, all kinds of flowers, and even vegetables and spices. Some plants were climbing all over the place. Alisha took the succulent to a table in the middle of the room, where she repotted it, gave it water, fertilizer, and she did some other stuff with it. I'm pretty sure I saw her put a gemstone in it at a certain point.

After 5 minutes she gave the plant back to me, while saying "Don't you dare to let this little one die, alright?" I promised her that I'd take care of it. We returned to the kitchen to finish our breakfast.

"Wait aren't we late for school-" I suddenly saw the 7:45 on the clock. "Oh no," Alisha answered, "it only starts at 9:30 for me. My jaw almost dropped while stared at her. "9:30?! Jesus Christ you're lucky!" I exclaimed. She sighed. "Yeah..."

Oh stupid me. Stupid stupid me. "I didn't mean-"
"Hey it's okay, no worries," but I saw her face getting sad.

"Come on!" I said, grabbing her hand, and she looked up, "help me find some clothes that I can wear to school- that starts in 10 minutes... " Sorry miss Adams, I'd miss chemistry. Not that I was any good at it.

Alisha found me some clothes, that were all a little oversized for me, and totally not my style, but I absolutely loved it. Plus, the outfit was very cute and very Alisha. I know for a fact that my friends would have remarks on the clothes, as I usually wore black hoodies and jeans. But  I couldn't care less.

"I'll go put it on in the bathroom," I told Alisha

"I'll go put it on in the bathroom," I told Alisha. "Oh I think my mom's there, you can change clothes here though."

I looked at her hesitantly. She couldn't know about my cuts. She'd start worrying and asking questions and I had such a great time, I couldn't deal with that at the moment. "It's okay," I said, as my heart is pounding in my chest, "I'll wait."

Alisha looked at me with a weird glance. "Babe we've both already seen each other a thousand times, it's not like I'm going to stare at you. Plus you're beautiful, nothing to be ashamed of. It's fine, really, be at home."

What the fuck do I do? If I hesitated too much she would be suspicious. I decided to just turn around and dress as quickly as possible.

My plan almost worked but then Alisha got up to take something from her nightstand, and saw my legs. And the cuts. Shit.

I quickly put the pants on, but Alisha was already staring at me, with those big sad eyes. "Yara..."

"Don't even start okay? I don't want to talk about it." But she kept looking at me, trying to find words. I knew she wanted to say something, but stubbornly I kept my mouth closed and looked the other way. She wasn't supposed to find out about it, it was just a temporary thing. And I didn't need her to worry about my mental health with all her problems going on.

A few more seconds passed before Alisha couldn't stay silent anymore. "Since when?" she asked me. "It really doesn't matter." I answered her shortly. When I realized I was being rude, I took a deep breath. "Since a few months. December, I think."

Silence again. Then Alisha broke it by saying: "Well, you should've told me." I wanted to interrupt her, but she continued, "No, I don't want to hear it. You should've told me. I might not be able to understand what's going on in your head, or in your... household," she said carefully, "but I am your best friend, and you should not go through this shit alone. You should've fucking told me." She began getting agitated, and I just stared at the floor silently. "Why didn't you, mhm? Do you not trust me? Do you not want to bother me? I am your BEST FUCKING FRIEND! For God's sake, Yara!" She was yelling now.

Tears had started rolling down my cheeks. Alisha was done giving me her speech, and noticed it. "Oh no no, I'm sorry for being angry," she came and gave me a hug. The tears didn't stop, and I started sobbing and taking cracked breaths. I felt safe crying in her arms, and the more it lasted the more I felt a burden coming of my shoulders. Alisha was telling me soft reassuring words while rubbing my back. I wish time could stop.
