Yara

16 May

I was following Alisha again, she was on her way to school. Yes, I was well aware that it was kind of creepy to stalk people, but it was not like I had anything else to do. And it wasn't like I watched her showering or something.

Plus, I needed to figure out what kept me here. In movies and books ghosts always stayed on earth for some "unfinished business". I might find peace if I figured it out. It has been a month now.

Lisha didn't look happy, but not particularly sad either. Rather... numb. Like I did in my last days.

I floated a bit around her, talking to her, as usual. She couldn't hear me, of course.

"So, this guy Jaden has been looking a lot at you, Lisha, I think he's really getting into you. That's pretty stupid though, not the fact that he falls in love with you, but to fall in love with you without knowing you. He's missing all the good stuff. If he ever makes a move on you, he better do it good. And if he hurts you I'll use my cool ghost abilities to take care of him." I smiled a bit at the idea, knowing that Lisha would laugh if I'd be really talking to her. But her face had the same expression, or rather no expression, and an emptiness in her eyes as she kept walking to school, not hearing a word of what I just said.

Suddenly I heard a male voice behind us. "Ah, there she is!" I turned around to see who it was, but Alisha kept walking, sighing deeply. It was Max, one of the worst bullies. I hated this guy so much. I didn't know what got into his head, seriously. I saw how he lived: in a fancy mansion, with both his parents a happy couple and he had a dog. Even his dog was cute, damnit. It didn't seem like he had any problems whatsoever, except for this sick mindset to bully my best friend.

When Max saw how Alisha didn't respond, the expression on his face changed from playfulness to an angry stare. The boy got some anger and attention issues. He started running towards Alisha, and helpless I had to see how he grabbed the cap of her hoodie and dragged her towards a small alley.

"Fuck it let her go!" I screamed, not that it mattered. My hands went through both their bodies as I saw how Alisha almost choked on her own cap, gasping for air, but not trying to get out if his grip. Max held her against the wall with one arm, a triumphant glaze glinting in his eyes. Alisha didn't resist. She didn't fight, didn't move... This wasn't her. I saw in her eyes how she was just waiting for this to be over.

"What?" she hissed at Max, seemingly irritated, but with a scared undertone. In the mean time Jenna and her friends came in the alley too, pointing and making nasty comments at Alisha, encouraging Max to "teach her a lesson".

I was getting so mad. The fury was burning through my veins, and the fact that I couldn't do anything, I couldn't even scream or touch a thing, made me even more angry. I just stood there, in the middle of the scene, watching how Alisha was about to get beaten up. Helpless. Just like I was before.

Tears started running out of my eyes from frustration, when Max started talking to her. "So, how's our little puppet doing?" Ew. His little what? I felt my hands forming fists, the adrenaline rushing. Alisha didn't answer him, and I could hear how Max was getting irritated. "Being silent now, hm?" Who does he think he is? Talking like that... "That'll teach you." he said.

Oh no. I saw him lifting up his fist, ready to strike. No. Alisha turning away, her eyes closed and her body all tensed up to prepare for the collision. No way in hell. Before I realized what I was doing, I moved and held my own hand against Max's fist, making him stop. Astonished, with my jaw dropped, I looked at my own hand, holding his fist, keeping it away from Alisha.

I could touch-?

A few days after I stopped Max's fist, Lisha and Jaden had their first little date. I still wasn't so sure about Jaden. He had to prove himself. And I hadn't forgiven him for not protecting Alisha all this time. If he really cared oh so much for her, he should've been there for her. Instead of "waiting until the right moment", as he wrote in his diary.

Yes, I read his diary, so what? I'm a ghost, it's the least I can do to give myself a little pleasure.

But until I was sure about Jaden, I needed to protect Lisha. I needed to be sure he wouldn't hurt her.

Wouldn't hurt her like I did.

The two of them were having a little moment, staring at the clouds, laughing a bit awkwardly. Typical first date stuff. I saw how their hands were both moving closer to each other. It didn't particularly make me happy.

When their hands just touched, I stepped up and swept them away from each other. Both of them looked up the other way, embarrassed of what almost happened. I smiled victoriously.

"Just wait a bit, Lisha, I know you're lonely, but I need to leave you in good hands."
