Dre himself was also almost fired.
Death Row was Interscope's problem child and most executives were trying to get rid of them in many ways. So they weren't too happy when Jimmy Iovine let Dre create Aftermath. The start of Aftermath was rocky, every record Dre put out was a flop by their standards and corporate was looking for any reason they could find to get rid of Dre. They offered Jimmy Iovine money, other artists, deals, etc. Whatever they thought might appeal to him but he told them no.
He told corporate that if they wanted to fire Dre, then he'd quit.
And for those of you who don't know, Jimmy is the OWNER/ CREATOR OF INTERSCOPE. So for him to threaten to quit if they fire Dre, that's huge.
