Dre actually tried to keep Em from every having to deal with Suge.
The way Suge works is: "you don't mess with me, I won't mess with you."
In the early days of Aftermath Suge was notorious for going on the news, to magazines, in interviews and talking a lot of shit about Dre. Em wrote a few lines about Suge in a few songs that were supposed to go on the SSLP. Dre however told him to get rid of any line about Suge, he didn't want Em to become a target.
Em actually mentions this in the song "Like Toy Soldiers" :
It wasn't my intentions, my intentions were good
I went through my whole career with out ever mentioning (Suge)
And that's just outta respect, for not running my mouth
And talking about something that I knew nothing about
Plus Dre told me stay out, just wasn't my beef, So I did
I just fell back, watched and gritted my teeth while he's all over TV
Now I'm talking a man (Dre) who literally saved my life, like fuck it
I understand, this is business and this shit just isn't none of my business
But still knowing this shit could pop off at any minute cause
