I screamed jumping nearly three feet in the air. My heart was taking off in my chest as I followed the path of what ever it was. i squinted into the dark trying to catch a glimpse of what it had been. The cat that had just bounded across my car looked back at me from the other side of the street, his green eyes flashing in the night. i exhaled my pent up breath moving to roll down my window and poked my head out. "bad kitty!" i hissed

When i had finally calmed down, i slumped back in my car seat, dropping my head into my hands as tears pricked my eyes. i looked at my hands, holding them up infront of me. I was actually shaking, i've never been so scared in my entire life. i dropped them back into my lap sniffling loudly as i tried to push back my tears. I exhaled, nodding to myself. i gotta get out of here. with that i climbed out of my car and ran to my apartement, glancing around every so often.

When i had successfully made it into my tiny aparetment i practically ran to my closet, grabbing the duffel bag i had stuffed on its top shelf a few months back. Maybe it was a good thing i got fired from the diner. saved me the trouble of dealing with my former boss. it was time to get out of here anyways, there was nothing left for me.

i started yanking clothes off of the hangers and stuffing them into the bags depths, not worrying about wrinkles at the moment. I grabbed my whole jewelery box shoving it in after a pile of socks i had thrown in. When my bedroom was bare and my duffel bag was almost full i started on the bathroom. grabbing a tooth brush, my towel and some other essentials i needed before i checked everywhere else for vaulables. After about almost an hour of stuffing stuff into my duffel, i was finally finished packing.

It was amazing how bare and abandoned my apartement looked. Its as if i was never there, funny how you can fit your whole like into one bag in only an hour.  The roar of a car sounded outside my apartement, from the open window facing the street. i walked over making sure to stay hidden just incase. it was a large SUV that let out two men. Something was definetly off about these guys. They weren't the type to come around a place like this and a flash of a gun at their hips only gave me more reason to be worried.

"look at this dump." one said, his voice deep and heavy. "you sure she's gonna be here?" the other just shrugged, his eyes scanning the front of the building. i backed up hoping he didn't see me. "i dont know. the sooner we get rid of the broad, the sooner we can get the hell out of here." that was all i needed to hear to  know i had to get out of there right away. i headed for my door, glancing back just once at the place i had called home for almost 4 years.

i closed the door locking it, hoping maybe i could stall them if i managed to get past them without them seeing me. i quietly jogged down the hall, past the elevator that had been out of service since the 90's, to the stairs farther down the hall. just as i reached the landing i could hear male voices. i froze, straining my ears to hear if they were the ones that i saw standing outside only a minute ago.

"shut up mikey! do you want people to call the cops before we even get upstairs?!" one guy hissed. i silently cursed, there was no way i would be able to dodge them without them seeing me.  I glanced around, trying to find a place to hide. i considered maybe walking right past them on the way down, but that plan bet alot on the point that they did not know what i looked like. From Dariens words back in the parking lot, i knew that was a really slim chance of that being the case.  Their voices were getting closer and closer and i began to become frantic, then my eyes landed on a door that read 'Cleaning Supplies' i ran to it as quietly as i could praying to god the door was unlocked.

when i grasped the handle and it swung open i nearly shouted in joy. I slipped into the black closet quickly, hoping i didn't knock over anything that would give me away. their voices had just sounded at the end of the hall and were getting closer by the second. i semi closed the door, leaving it open a small crack so i could see through. i was sweating bullets, my breathing ragid and uneven. I flinched when the white of one of the mens shirt passed the opening of the door. please god help me out alittle. i silently prayed as i held my breath.
