Part 20

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG)
Still Monday October 11th

Amelia's POV:

I'm sitting in my office trying to fight the wave of nausea coming over me. I'm looking through charts trying to distract myself but nothing works I run across the hall to the bathroom and throw up. I walk out of the stall and see Meredith.

"Hey are you okay?" She asks me.

I wash my face off and nod, "yeah I will be fine." Before she can say anything else I walk out. I go down to the cafeteria and find something good to eat. I take it back to my office to eat before my scheduled surgery. I get it all finished and for once I am feeling decent. I get down to the OR and scrub in. 

I am in deep in this patients brain when it hits me, "Oh no not now."

Edwards looks at me, "Dr. Shepherd? Is something wrong with the patient?"

"No, no. Can someone get me water? I need water." I stay focused on what I'm doing and breathe through it. An intern leaves to go get water then comes back a few minutes later. I step back from the patient and let them pull down my mask, I take a few sips and shut my eyes for a second.

"Alright let's keep going people. Keep that water here." I walk back up to the patient and keep going like nothing happened.

"Dr. Shepherd what was that?" Edwards asks me

I look up at her, "As you know I'm pregnant, and I have this thing that makes me really sick. But you do not under any circumstances tell my husband about this impacting my work. He will make me stop working. So from here on out when I say I need water just get it for me. Or if I need to vomit just hold my damn hair. I'm not going to be put on bed rest."

Edwards nods, "Okay Dr. Shepherd."

I know I should definitely tell Owen and it probably isn't safe for me to keep working but I can't sit at home all day it will kill me. We finish the surgery with me only needing to take one more break and I go and sit down at the nurses station. Owen comes over and leans against the counter while looking at a chart on the tablet. "How is your day?" He asks me

I smile, "it's good. I'm glad to be working. Keeps me occupied."

He smiles, "I am very glad to hear you say that. I'm gonna go do a surgery then I'm gonna head out. Can you pick up dinner on your way home? Anything you want is fine I just don't feel like cooking."

"Yeah I can do that. I'll see you tonight. I should be home around 5"

"Great!" He kisses my cheek then walks away towards the OR.

Carmen's POV:

I'm sitting with my friends at lunch when Drew comes over. I've had a crush on him since I've came here. He looks at me directly and I get really nervous. I sometimes get nervous around guys that I don't know well. But he seems like a nice guy, right ?

"Hey Carmen." He smiles at me and I shyly smile back.

"Hi Drew."

"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out after school. We could go to the movies?"

I get very nervous but realize I can't turn him down as this might be my only chance, "Yeah sure."

I am going to have to lie to my parents. They will never let me go with him. "Alright I'll meet you outside the gym after last period." I nod and smile as he walks away. I take out my phone and text mom and dad in the group chat : Hey I won't be home right away. I am going to the movies with some of my friends. I'm not sure if I will need a ride back or not. I'll let you know though.

Mom texts back first : Okay BE SAFE! We love you ❤️

I get in Drew's car and we start driving. He looks over at me, "So we are going to the drive-ins. That good with you?"

"Yeah sure" I smile still really nervous. He pulls into a spot at the drive ins and he gets out and folds the seats down so we climb into the trunk and sit there to look at the screen. He parked far in the back so it's kinda hard to see the screen. I look over at him, "Dont you think we should be a little closer? I can't really see"

He shakes his head, "no then we wouldn't be able to do this." He comes closer to and starts kissing me and he lifts up my shirt and I start to panic. I jump back. "No, No I can't. I'm not doing that." Everything from the all the foster homes starts coming back to me.

He comes towards me again and unbuttons my pants and sticks his hand in and I push him off of me. "I'm going to the bathroom." I get out of the car and run towards the building. I hide behind it and start sobbing. I take out my phone. I don't know if I should call mom or dad. I think of their schedules and realize my mom is still at work. I don't want her to leave suddenly especially being pregnant. I call my dad and silently pray he answers

"Hey! Is the movie over already?" He asks me when he answers the phone

My voice is shaky and I'm crying into the phone, "I need you to come pick me up"

I hear his tone of voice change suddenly, "Carmen where are you?"

"I-I'm at the drive Ins"

"I'm coming right now." He says into the phone and I can hear him getting into his car.

I go to the front of the building where he would pass to drive in and he pulls over when he sees me. He runs over and looks me up and down, "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

I shake my head still in shock. As we go to get in the car Drew comes walking up. "Carmen there you are! We need to finish what we were about to do."

I jump into my dads car and lock the doors. My dad looks at Drew and pushes him against the car, "what did you do to my daughter?"

Drew looks scared out of his mind, "I-I thought she wanted to have sex."

Owen pushes him against the car harder, "Don't you ever touch my daughter again. I can get you in big trouble kid. If we just forget this ever happened no will get hurt." I watch as he lets him go and Drew runs in the other direction. Owen gets in the car and looks at me, "Don't tell your mom I just did that."

I nod silently, never seeing my dad that mad before. We drive home and I immediately go up to my room and shut the door.

Authors note:
AHHHHH chapter 19 and 20 hit harddddd. Amelia dealing with HG, Her also keeping the secret of how hard it is for her to work from Owen !??, Owen almost committing a crime on this kid and telling Carmen not to Amelia. Things are going to be intense, buckle up omelia fans ; ) also at this point I have several chapters already written and just post a new one each day so we are staying on top of this story!!
