Amelia's POV:

"Carmen come over here. Tell me about college." I Pat the couch beside me. Owen has gone into work already this morning and I'm relaxing with the kids until I need to go.

Carmen sits down next to me, "what do you want to know?"

"Are you excited about this? Have you and Chris talked? With him going to basic training after graduation?" I ask her.

"Yeah I'm excited. Chris and I have talked about it. We are obviously going to try the whole long distance thing. I know it's going to suck and be really hard, but I think we can do it. Right?" She looks at me.

"Carmen. If two people really both want something, you guys will do anything to make it happen. So I have high hopes you two will be okay." I smile at her. 

"Nowww can we talk about you and dad?" She asks as she hits my leg.

I laugh, "Why would you want to do that?"

"I want to know when I'm getting another sibling. I don't care if I won't be here all the time with him or her. Still my sibling."

"I really don't know when its going to happen Car, I sadly can't predict that. We are trying though."

"Oh I know you are." She winks and I push her shoulder. "Shut up. You are such an annoying daughter."

"You know you love me. You just don't like that I'm somehow just like you, even though I don't have your DNA." She laughs which causes me to laugh.

"Yeah it's kind of scary how we have the same personality." I say leaning back and turning on the TV.

"I think it's great, cause my mom is basically my best friend." Carmen says as she leans into me.

"Awww." I put my around her, "you're being too nice. What do you want?"

She laughs, "Nothing. I'm being serious, but also can I sleep at Chris's tonight?"

I laugh and point at her, "There it is! But sure you can sleep there. So was the whole best friend thing a lie?"

She shakes her head, "Nah that part was true. You are my best friend mom."

"You're my best friend too Car." I smile at her. I flip through the channels and set it on the news. The screen flashes : BREAKING NEWS

The reporter talks, "We have just received word that there is an active shooter at Grey-Sloan Memorial hospital. We have no current update on any injuries or casualties."

I completely shut down. I'm staring at the TV in disbelief until Carmen shakes me, "mom mom what do we do?" She asks nervous.

"I-I need to go. Your dad is there." I stand up and turn off the TV, "You don't need to watch this either."

"Mom wait! Is it even safe for you to go?" She stands up and follows me to the door.

"Probably not. But I need to know if your dad is okay. And god forbid if he's not, I need to be there with him. Kids come out here!" I yell towards the playroom.

They run out and I bend down and hug them all, "Mommy loves you guys. Okay, I love you so much. Daddy does too."

Carmen sniffles, "Mom stop." I stand up and hug her too, "I'll be back. So will dad."
