He wasn't ready...

The second Izuku opened the door, Inko was there. She quickly offered Shinso some guest slippers, took his coat and asked him if the apartment was too chilly for him. Izuku watched, an embarrassed blush on his face as his mother smothered his new friend with hospitality. Shinso looked like a deer caught in headlights as she escorted him over to the couch.

"Here's the remote, sweetie. Watch anything you like. Izuku and I aren't picky." Inko said as she gave Shinso the remote. "But don't put on any pre-quirk horror films. Izuku may like them but they give me the heebie-jeebies." The lost look on Shinso's face made Izuku giggle as he joined him on the couch. Inko left to finish cooking as the two sat in the living room. Shinso turned on the tv and left it.

"Your mom is... really nice." Shinso commented, looking over to Izuku. Izuku left out a small laugh, nodding.

"Yeah, I guess she just really likes it when I have friends over." Izuku replied. The show on tv seemed like a random comedy, but neither boys really paid attention to it.

"Do you have friends over often?" Shinso asked.

"No, not really." Izuku said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I... I didn't have a lot of friends growing up? At least, not in my school. The Bakugo's come over every so often, but other than that I never had friends over."

"Oh," Shinso said, an odd look on his face. "Me neither. But I don't think if I even had friends, that they would be willing to come to my house." Izuku looked over to Shinso, a bit of understanding on his face.

"I get that. When I was first diagnosed as quirkless, kids used to think I was contagious and avoid me as much as possible." Izuku said, a sad smile on his face. "I guess kids would've had a similar assumption that you would brainwash them."

"Yeah, they did." Shinso replied. The more they talked, the more the two realized the other understood them. They probably understood each other better than anyone else at school.

"Supper's ready!" Inko called excitedly. She stood in front of the island and the two boys walked over to see everything set up.

"You go first, Shinso." Izuku said, shoving the boy lightly. "You are the guest."

"I guess.." Shinso said as he hesitantly picked up a plate with a bun on it. He chose to put cheese, onion, lettuce, ketchup and of course, pickles on his burger. Izuku did the same but added mustard and Inko added a slice of tomato for hers. For sides, Inko made homemade french fries.

"You two are quiet, I suppose I did good then?" Inko asked with a bright smile as she watched the two boys eat.

"Yemch chou mdib" and "Mhm relmly gwmd" were the replies she received. Inko just nodded, supposing it must be good since both boys went back in to take a huge bite out of the burgers. Izuku and Shinso both went back for seconds. Inko waited patiently as they ate, not wanting to start a conversation and make her guest feel rushed. Once the two were finished, she quickly took over dish duty and asked Izuku to put the leftovers in containers.

"So, Shinso, Izuku told me you're trying to get into the hero course?" Inko asked kindly. She saw the cautiousness in Shinso's posture and frowned.

I don't want him to be scared of me, she thought.

"Yes ma'am."

"Oh! You don't have to call me that! Inko is just fine hun." Inko said with a bright smile on her face. "It must be very exciting to be doing all that training. What kind of hero do you want to be?"
