It was strange how quickly things could change. In the short time that you'd spent here, you'd gone from feeling absolutely powerless to realizing just how much authority you now held. Of course, that wasn't to say that you were the one calling the shots or anything, but with your position as Shigaraki's "lover" also came a sort of immunity. That idiot from the other day had crossed the line and paid the price for it, but now that everyone knew who you were, you were untouchable.
"If any of you hurt [Name] or upset her in any way, I promise I'll kill you myself," Shigaraki had calmly but menacingly declared during a gathering one day. Not all of the members had been present, but you were sure the word would spread like wildfire. You'd even sat with him that day, right on his lap, able to gaze down at the multitude of followers gathered below. They were staring at you partly in awe, but also in fear.
Somehow, that made you happier than you could even explain.
Gone were the days that you would have to fear for your safety, to suffer at the hands of any more disgusting predators. Shigaraki was going to protect you from now on. There was nothing and no one that would ever dare to cross you so long as he was around.
You realized it was a bitter irony, to seek comfort and protection in the man who had once hurt you himself, but you'd decided that you were done dwelling on the past. Those things could never be changed. All you could do now was look to the future, to be optimistic and hopeful, to wish for a life where you could actually obtain happiness somehow.
After the meeting, Shigaraki had offered you an apologetic smile. "I won't be able to spend much time with you today. The doctor is coming by to give me a checkup and see how my body is recovering. There's also some other things we need to discuss."
It was a little difficult to hide your dejection, but you tried not to let it show too much.
"Who is the doctor?"
"He used to work with sensei. They've known each other for a long time, so we can trust him. He's the one that led me to Gigantomachia so that I could tame him."
"Ah..."
You vaguely remembered him telling you about some gigantic humanoid beast that had helped them topple Deika City in their latest battle. Apparently, getting that thing on their side had been extremely difficult, but they now had a nearly undefeatable weapon at their disposal. You supposed it was good, given that it would help defend against any heroes. You just hoped it wouldn't end up losing control one day and turning on him.
"Kurogiri-san is still being held by the authorities, right?"
"As far as we know. Don't really have much of a clue where he is, though."
"I'd gotten used to seeing him around," you mumbled absentmindedly. "Oh... I wasn't trying to be inconsiderate or anything. I know he did a lot for you. I'm sure you'll be able to get him back one day."
Shigaraki brushed your hair to the side, looking amused. "It's fine. I'm not angry. We're doing fine now without him. Getting him back would be ideal, but everything will fall into place eventually. There's no point in trying to rush."
"How long are you going to be with the doctor?"
"Probably a few hours. I'll be back by the evening. Toga and Twice will be happy to keep you company if you ask."
"I don't really like either of them."
"Ha-ha. Well, that's fine too."
He leaned in to press a kiss against your forehead. Just as you were trying to fend off a blush, you were suddenly aware of someone clearing their throat behind you. When you turned, you found a short older man with bushy mustache and large, steampunk-style goggles. He was dressed in a white lab coat. He must have been "the doctor".
