I was woken up by Marley shaking my shoulders at 8 am. Though she isn't a morning person, She looked wide awake.
"You too me to wake you." She said.
I quickly rolled. "Thank you." I hurried to my closet and picked out an outfit. Once I was dressed, I grabbed my phone and keys and ran to the door.
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Marley asked. "Where are you going?"
I twirled my necklace in my fingers. "I'm going to see someone."
Marley's eyes lit up like Christmas lights. She pulled me into a hug. "Good luck. I'm glad you're finally doing it."
I smiled and opened the door. "Me too."
I got into my car a buckled up. I typed an address into my phone and headed out on the road. The two hour drive to Nashville would be worth it. I had gotten Jeff's address from Jody and I had asked him not to tell Jeff I was coming. I wanted him to be surprised.
I was on a mission. I was tired of listening to my memories and was ready to finally listen to my heart. And all my heart was telling me was to go see Jeff. There was something important I had to tell him and ask him. I knew now that was I was feeling was true. There was something there. I believed it. And, as much as I hate to admit it, Marley's Operation: Love Riot worked.
My heart was racing. Was I really doing this? I wish I had done it sooner. Noticed it sooner. I thought back to the tour. All the small moments we shared. The first day, that following evening. That night he woke up to check on me and The day Marley put her plan into action. All his calls after I left. The necklace he gave me. He did care more than I've even realized.
I was in Nashville by 10 o'clock. It didn't take me long to find Jeff's house. I parked in the street and walked up to the door. I took a deep breath. I reached over a rang the doorbell. After a minute or two, Jeff opened the door. His eyes lit up when he saw me, with excitement and a hint of confusion.
"Mya, what're you doing here?" He asked.
"I wanted to come see you." I replied. "There's something really important I need to tell you and ask you."
Jeff stepped aside. "Come in."
I slipped past him inside. The house was charming and neatly kept. Nothing looked put of place but I could tell he had more space than he knew what to do with. He lead me to the living room and we sat across from each other on the couch.
I smiled. "I really missed you."
"I've really missed you too. I'm really glad your here." Jeff rubbed the back of his neck. "I have to tell you something too."
"You go first." I told him.
Jeff took a deep breath. "I really like you, Mya. I have for a while now. I'm usually the one who's on top off things but since you joined the tour, I was distracted by you. And ever since you left, I still thought about you everyday."
I smiled. "Do you remember when you told me that I would never know what my next relationship would be like unless I go for it and put myself out there?" I scooted closer to him.
He nodded. "Yeah?"
I reach forward and put my hands on his shoulders then leaned in and placed a light kiss to his lips. I pulled away after a couple of seconds. "I decided to go for it."
Jeff smiled and a light blush crept onto his face. "So, now what?"
"I wanna take things slow." I said. "But I want to give a relationship a try. I'm not afraid anymore."
Jeff took my hand. "I'm glad. So what did you wanna ask me?"
"Well, my parents are getting remarried," I started. "and I asked if I could bring a plus one and or date. Would you wanna join me?"
"As a plus one or a date?"
I smiled. "Why not both?"
"I'd be honored too."
The rest of my visit, we just talked and enjoyed each other's company. I filled him on everything that he would need to know for the wedding and by 4 o'clock I was needed back home. Jeff walked me to the door.
"I guess I'll see you at the wedding." He said.
"I guess you will."
Jeff leaned down a kissed my forehead. "Drive safetly. I'll call you tomight."
"I will." I reached up and kissed his cheek.
I was grinning ear to ear as I drove home. For the first time in a long while, my heart raced when I was around someone. Marley knew it all along and I didn't admit it. I didn't believe it was there, but it was. Marley was right and now I was finally ready to admit it.
I was in love with a Newsboy.
