"How are you feeling?" Marley asked as she helped me with my hair.
"Excited." I replied, finishing my makeup.
"Okay." Marley took a step back. "Your hair's done."
"Stand up, honey." My mother instructed. "Let's see you."
I stood up and gave a little twirl. The end of the white dress fluttered by my feet while the top stayed in place against me.
"Oh, Mya." My mother wiped a tear from her eye. "You look beautiful."
"You're breathtaking." Avery added.
"Thank you."
There was a knock at the door. "Who is it?" Marley asked.
"It's just me." Came the reply.
"Come in, Jody." She called back.
The door opened and Jody walked in and stopped abruptly in his tracks when he saw me.
"What do you think?" I asked.
"Wow." Was all he said at first. He stepped up to me and pulled me into a hug. "You look beautiful."
I hugged him back, letting my chin rest on his shoulder. "Thanks, Jojo."
"Can we come in?" Michael's voice came from the door.
"As long as it just you." Marley responded.
Michael came in with Duncan behind him. "Dunny's here too."
"Wow, Mya." Duncan's eyes went wide. "You look incredible."
"Absolutely stunning." Michael added.
"Thank you guys."
"So Marley," Avery chimmed in. "is your Operation: Love Riot complete?"
Marley shook her head. "Not quite yet."
"Love Riot?" Michael tapped his finger against his chin. "That's gotta nice ring to it." He looked back and forth between Duncan and Jody. "What do think guys? Next record title?"
"It does have a good ring to it." Duncan agreed.
"How about we talk about next records another time?" Avery laughed as she and Marley rose from the couch they sat on. "Are you guys here for us?"
"Yeah, they want us to start lining up." Jody replied.
"Okay. We'll see you guys out there." Marley left with Avery and the boys, leaving me with my mom.
I took one last look at myself in the mirror. I had dreamed of this moment ever since I was little. Marley and I planned ours out when we were kids. And today it was finally happening.
"How do you feel, honey?" My mom asked again. She came up behind me and put her hands on my shoulders.
"Happy." I said. "I've been dreaming of this day for so long. I thought it would come earlier with you-know-who but now I'm glad it didn't. I still can't believe today's really happening."
"It it, sweetie." My mom said. "You've found yourself a wonderful man who will love and take care of you. That's all your father and I wver wantes for you."
I turned to look at my mom. "What was your first wedding day like?"
"It was wonderful." She replied, sighing blissfully as she remothe day. "I remember being just as excited and nervous as you are. I didn't think I'd ever find the right man but then I met your father. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was amazing."
"What was the first year like?" I asked.
"The first year was amazing but the second year was the best one." My mom answered. "That was the year I found out I was pregnant. We we're so excited and even more so when we found out we were having a girl. The day she was born was the happiest day of both of our lives. Her father and I both agreed on her name. We thought it would fir her perfectly. And now she's all grown up." My mom wiped a tear from her face. "I'm so proud of you, honey. You handled all the things in your life better I ever imagined you could. I couldn't ask for a better daughter."
I wiped a tear from my eye. There was anothe rknocm at the door. "Are you ready, Mya?"
My mother gave me one last hug. "I'll see you out there."
Once my mother left, I took one last look at me. I was ready. I wlaked out of the room and lined up next to my dad. I linked my arm with his and grabbed my bouquet. "Are you ready?" My dad asked.
"I am."
He leaned down and kissed my forehead. "I love you, honey."
"I love you too, dad."
Marley and Jody were in front of us and they
both shot smiles over their shoulders at me. When the music started, I felt my heart speed up. Avery was my one other bridesmaid and her and Duncan were the first to start walking followed by Marley and Jody. When it was our turn, I took a deep breath before walking out with my dad.The wedding wasn't very big, just closest friends and family. I looked around at my closest people. Avery, Duncan and Michael. Even when they barely knew me, they showed that they cared and supported me. They were understanding of my family situation even more when I left.
Jody. He had become a big brother to me. He protected me from Ryan. He was around for me when Jeff couldn't be. I grew up an only child. Now, I had someone who cared for me and protected me like an older brother.
My parents. Both now happy and well. I wouldn't be here without them and would be who I was if it wasn't for them.
Marley. My best friend. My sister. She had stuck by me through all of it. Through everything. She never gave up on me. Never left me out of something. She was always there to cheer me up. I was so lucky to have her in my life. She's the whole reason any of this is happening.
Jeff was waiting for me at the end. He looked so handsome and his smile was bigger and brighter than it had ever been. I was now more than ever happy that I took his advice and put myself back out there. My fear had blinded me from seeing that the one for me was a bunk away from me. I was so thankful I had him in my life. He has been one of the most supportive, carring and sweetest person I knew.
When my father handed me over to him, this moment felt more and more real. Though our friends and family were around, it felt as though it was just the two of us. I took in every minute, every second. Every word we said to each other sealed our bond closer and closer.
I had had some doubts in my life, but now there wasn't a single doibt in my mind as I said those two words. "I do."
And with a single kiss...
Operation: Love Riot was completed.
